Post news Report article RSS Feed Invitations are on their way

We have just begun sending out invitations in blocks of 100 to those who responded first.

Posted by TKAzA on Dec 31st, 2009

First off i would like to thank all the people that have requested beta access, the response is truly amazing for a application you have yet to see or try. Due to the overwhelming response we need to stagger / break the invites into blocks over the next few weeks. This will allow us to fix bugs and respond promptly to issues before everyone is on the platform.

Today, the first 50 members that commented on the announcement, and the first 50 email requests, will be receiving their invite, so please check your email or updates for an invite. The second block of invites will be sent once all bugs and issues reported by these members are addressed and so on until everyone has access.

For those who were the last to post, please don't be worried your missing out, Desura is in very early beta, with few features and few games and mods. All you are missing is little bugs and not much content, you will get your exclusive invitation before the masses and an accolade for being a Desura tester. For those that are worried they missed out, we will be allowing further invites as the beta is developed and as always if you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments section, check the FAQ or email us.

Thank you for all your support and patience, and from both the ModDB and Desura staff happy new year, we will see you all in 2010 and look forward to the surprises it will bring.

As we said in the post, you are not missing too much at the moment, as Desura is only demo'in a small amount of content. In the new year we should begin to support quite a few more mods and games.

Just a quick headsup - at least it appears to run fine with wine under linux. At some point released linux binaries however would be highly appreciated ;)

We have built the underlying code in the most cross-platform manner possible so linux / mac will come, however our list of stuff to do just to get desura done is a mile long, so it will be a while before that time rolls around.

I figured so much, and I am glad to hear that you guys though about it beforehand. I just wanted to highlight that there is an interest in linux builds :)

Anyways, great job so far, looking forward to the trophy/achievement api :)

so is desura built on moddb or is it being developed from a chain of sites like file front
(sorry this wasn't meant to be a reply)

Delusibeta Dec 31 2009, 9:56am replied:

It's built on ModDB. Literally: the "Support" tab of the client takes you to the Support section of the ModDB forums, for example. The profiles of the mods that have got on mirror their ModDB profiles, aside from a few small extras (like optional videos for the top banners).

I'm liking Desura already even with the wonderful bugs lolz... Would like too see a Close Invite action on tab bar on top with a corection with the game scanner as well my dosent seem to work at all, right now i feel Desura is like a gamers version of facebook on a program and i do think this game has a massive potential and a feel towards Steam, but steam has IRC chat as well as voice. Other then that Desura is doing pretty good even in the early stages of Private/Close Beta and i can't believe Desura us Australian owned and officed as well, sooo wooo whoooooooo
