Hey guys, first sorry for the lack of info on the mod, we had hoped to get 2.62 out a lot sooner but we've had a number of new units and features that were planned for 2.63 that we've decided to roll into 2.62. This had led to a bit of a delay in getting the patch out to you all, but I'm sure it will be worth waiting for.
You may have seen some of the new units we have that will be rolling into the mod, we've also got two new maps that will be included, the first is Merderet v2, which will feature a much more complete map (though we will be including the original map as well). The other is a new community map made by McNools "Neaville", using Mikebart's vegetation which is looking fantastic and we are really looking forward to including in the release for you all! Here's a selection of some of the new bits and pieces you'll be seeing in our 2.62 release, the video provides a general overview and some great new music from SFG, with further details and stills below:
Our new tank hud gives crews the ability to have a lot more information at their fingertips to make a more effective fighting force. The hud displays both the direction with relative compass bearings of the main hull, the top turret, and commander views, as well as displaying information on the currently active weapon and rounds. HomerJohnston has also been busy overhauling our ranging system to provide a much more realistic and usable system for players.
Yac has been updating some of our older weapons such as the M1 Garand and SMLE no4 to bring them up to a better standard, with time we hope to replace these and other weapons with completely original new models but these should provide a nice stop-gap until we can recruit a few new modellers or our current ones finish their current projects.
Merederet v2 features a much denser map with several new points of interest as well as modifications to existing areas. The main focus was removing the very buggy rubble town in the center of the map, while it looked great, it really didn't function very well in the engine, and without the time to fully develop our own wrecked buildings it was decided we could provide a much more enjoyable experience focusing on buildings and models that are immediately available and work well with ArmA2's gameplay and engine.
A brand new fictional map from McNools set in the french countryside, with a number of small towns and farm compounds that provides some great new gameplay options for missions with a very different feel and look to our current maps.
Another addition to our winter set of troops, now the British are fully kitted our for some Winter weather ready to fight in the cold wastes!
Originally intended for release with 2.63 we're hoping to include this new unit for the Germans, though we are currently looking for ways to implement it into the artillery system as due to its low-angle firing we have had some issues making it work with ArmA's artillery system, so right now is setup as a direct fire weapon.
Another item planned for 2.63 that we'll be rolling in early, these new Luftwaffe fighter pilot, bomber pilot, co-pilot, and crew units from Yac expand the air crew options available for the Luftwaffe in advance of our planned aircraft update in 2.7.
There's also a wealth of bug-fixes and code improvements, new missions, as well as a large sound effects overhaul we'll be releasing more information on and previews of as we near release which shouldn't be too far off now!
