C&C Red Alert 3 mod. What do you think?
We need a name and a story-line. Drop in suggestions for us!
Help us group together a HUGE modding team!
We need more members!
Well, resources and money, thats recently very popular (and so unacceptable). Domination... unless there will be new form of goverment like fashism, maybe. Defense... there must be some kind of offense, and that needs reasson :P So there remains disagreement... what actually you mean this?
If you have an "universe" (aka: setting) with a finite main resource (like for instance fossil fuels), you will have wars between nations that have the resource, and those that don't.
In most cases, you can say that there is no war over actual money, but over the resources that influence currency (like oil in real life. Oil price goes up, all prices go up...)
You'd see the rise of very expensive alternative resources, which cost a lot of 'standard' resources to produce, but yield even more in the end.
You could use a realistic setting for mods with this "theme". So, something like Generals. Abrams tanks, B-2 Spirit bombers, aircraft carriers.
The nations would range from the high-tech "settled powers" (like NATO), to the lower-tech but quickly rising forces (China?). You might also see a "recovering" nation, which had some major problems before, and is just trying to recover when the shi* hits the fan (Eastern Europe/Russia after the fall of communism?).
Another faction would rise from the regions that are caught up in the destructive fight over resources. Militias, terrorists.
Yes, the above is highly inspired by the modern situation, and the settings seen in other mods.
Yet, this could be fun to experiment on.
After looking at other red 3 mods we will need to think outside the box as to not be totally wiped-out by a bigger mod o.O so maybe total conversion is in order and story line is all well and good but I'm a game play man myself =P all the mods stick with.....red alertness xD so we...couldn't i shall return with a comment containing some form of idea ^^
Generals 2 (or something similar)
United States of America versus China versus Middle East.*
With a world domination gameplay mode ala C&C 3 KW.
*No faction are the good guys, just differen't perspectives, what I mean to say is: NO AMERICA AS THE GOOD GUYS. I'm American and I protest that for once please please make USA as evil as they really are in real life. I'm sick and tired of this propaganda in computer games where the USA are the good guys. There is no such thing as a Protagonist type country..... any country that has invaded another or uses violence in such a fashion is evil. Vietnam, Afganistan etc. All unjust ******** wars to fuel America's War-centric Industry which needs a annual war to avoid economic collapse (same principle as hitler's war-industry).
But EA could do a Bungie and shut us down half way thorugh development when they decide to take a stab at screwing up Generals 2.
Bungie Boss: OMG their C&C generals halo mod is like 10 times better than our secret Halo Wars project. How dare they make a free mod that had been in development way before ours was even shown to the public.
Bungie Lawyer: I can shut them down for you.
Bungie Boss: Wait, you can do that?
Bungie Lawyer: Yeah of course, welcome to the world of complete corporate control.
Bungie Boss: Awesome! You up for a money orgy?
Bungie Lawyer: Damn Straight. 1,2,3 MONEY ORGY!
Generals 2 as a possible setting idea (as in: modern, based on real life) would be fun.
I don't have school tomorrow, so I'll start thinking on a possible story idea.
And as for the USA-Good-Guy comment:
It depends on how you look.
It isn't Good <-> Evil.
As a saying goes:
"It's not just Black or White. There are many shades of Grey in between."
That's why I agree with the point.
Maybe something with the US & NATO as one "faction", Russia & China as a second "faction", and the Middle East & Militia/Terrorists as a third faction?
As for the world settings, maybe a slightly alternative history, which led to a different "today"? (like we see in Generals: Massive 4-tracked dual-barrelled tanks, tactical nukes are standard weapons, particle weapons, Anthrax weaponized for mass deployment, tanks carrying small lasers, etc...)
And @ Lee:
I like the idea of helping out. Especially since I like thinking about war scenarios XD
Anyway, I'll start working on a more solid idea tomorrow.
All factions on Earth rely on a single main resource: Oil.
As the natural supply of this valuable resource begins to deplete, tensions between Earth’s superpowers begin to rise.
Oil prices begin to rise. After a few months, the cost per barrel already reaches $200.
Russia is keeping a tight leash on their own oil production. Their relation with the European Union has never been smooth, and the “Oil Crisis” doesn’t do them well.
The Russians are still recovering from conflicts both inside and outside their borders, and the effects from the past century. Their military is not sitting idle, and is developing new technology and improving old weapons
This forces the EU to import oil from the Middle East.
Because of the EU’s “police” status among warring nations, they had a lot of forces abroad.
These are now forced to retreat back. Dutch ships of the coast of Somalia are among the first to head home. Peacekeeping forces located in the unstable Middle East are soon to follow.
I got more. Though this is all open for change XD
(typing in Word doc, will copy into forum when ready)
Well, as others only talk about a mod stationed on Earth, placing a space to the mod while there will be only a space around Earth, its boring and not very creative.
V., if I understand correctly:
You would like to see a setting that includes deep space battles, not limited to our "small" solar system?
With stuff like long range travel (Wormholes, Quantum Gate Travel), and possibly planet warfare?
Yes, but not exactly you will fight with the battleships (or it would be as a kind of gyme type). But for example 3 races from 3 different planets fight together on various planets. Something like this.
Though it'll be a bit of a mix between some known games (like groups breaking off from settled powers, the well-known "Ship goes missing without any evidence why" scenario), but maybe it'll be more to your liking... And to that of the rest of course XD
I'll send a PM to you soon, I could use your insights :P
Well, we should use your scenario for the game and change it to fit to the galacical scale, so there will not be 6-7 HUMAN factions, but 6-7 races. The terrorist would stay, they will just be some combo of various races :)
I've just thought...
If we have a sci-fi theme, then we can have a special Campaign with the mod.
My idea is, is that the matches take place in space/on planets/in space vehicles!
What do you think?
All we need is decent mappers to help us with this :D
Huge fan of Sci-fi (BS:G FTW).... but IMO generic Science Fiction is an overused concept in games. For this mod to work using a sci-fi theme its concept needs to be on a totally different level to Star Craft 2, Mass Effect 2 etc. and not just a rehash of of a couple game/movie's styles. *insert generic alien/storyline here*. People have to go "HOLY CRAP that's epic, why hasn't this been done before" and not "been there done that, bought the T-shirt".
You're probably thinking, but you suggested C&C generals 2 as the mod idea. Your right I did, but that was because I thought it would be much easier to build a mod from the husk of the awesome and wacky generals rather than build one from scratch (though I admit the latter seems way more fun to do). I am also of the firm belief that for a mod/game anything to be successful it needs to offer something to the player that can't be got anywhere else. Generals on a new engine would do this, and would bring in general's countless fans. If SC2 wasn't coming out then a sci-fi standard sci-fi rts would have been great. In our present situation though... We're gonna have to bring out the big guns. (For the record, I think an ultra serious modern combat setting is mega boring.)
I have the initial plotline and factions for a story I was gonna use for my planned SC2 custom map drawn up. Its pretty crazy and avant-garde and mostly lies on the "what is this, I don't even" side of the sci-fi fence. Actually, I expect it won't be to everyone's tastes, but I'll post something up on the weekend if you're interested.
Well, now I remembered there is something what starts to be known, but noone done any mod about it. There were some tries, but they ended in the stage of planning.
Its called Nova Refuge. Its a fan fiction which is not spread, but not something small. There already exists a book about it, and more are waiting in the future. It tells a story about Human race and their evacuation from Earth because Sol became supernova, and the Humanity will arrive into galaxy they start calling Nova Refuge. Their new home is named Terra Nova, and after... 3 hundread years are formed 4 factions of humans.
But, as you can expect, they are not alone in this galaxy. Nearly after they land on Terra Nova, they will encounter 4 races, they start to call them Natives (because actually humans are aliens :P ) And the war between humans and natives began, but after, I think 1 hundread years, or only 50 years, the war stop and there is made agreement humans would stay.
Now we come to the problem. The natives left the humans, but humans starts to dislike each other and 2 blocks are formed. Ofcourse the humaans settled many planets and made many colonies, the hatred is there too :P ... more to come (dont have enought time)
The humans, divided into 4 factions and spread on many planets, starts to prepare for a possible war, and in one turn, the war began.
I dont read the book (unluckly), but it tells how this war actually begans. Two blocks are fighting with each other while the Natives stay out of this conflict, but they are looking carefully on each other, as they also fought in galactic scale before the arrival of humans. for more info, visit this page Novarefuge.com . But I must inform you there are not up-to-date informations, and a lot of them are missing too, so here I come, who knew some things, and I can always ask :)
Name and storyline depends on what exactly this mod will be about. And so far noone knew it.
What shall it be about then?
Red Alert 3 is a war game.
Wars are fought by countries/nations.
So, What can countries/nations fight over/for?
- Resources
- Money
- Domination
- Defense
- Communism
- Disagreements
Any more suggestion?
If not, which one shall we choose?
So it will be partial coversion, or total?
Well, resources and money, thats recently very popular (and so unacceptable). Domination... unless there will be new form of goverment like fashism, maybe. Defense... there must be some kind of offense, and that needs reasson :P So there remains disagreement... what actually you mean this?
It will be total :)
I mean disputes. E.g:
"This is my land!"
"Noo! It's mine!"
Anything like that ;)
Some thoughts:
Fight over resources idea:
If you have an "universe" (aka: setting) with a finite main resource (like for instance fossil fuels), you will have wars between nations that have the resource, and those that don't.
In most cases, you can say that there is no war over actual money, but over the resources that influence currency (like oil in real life. Oil price goes up, all prices go up...)

Yes, the above is highly inspired by the modern situation, and the settings seen in other mods.
Yet, this could be fun to experiment on.
Wow! Sounds good! :D
We'll wait for a few more suggestions, and we'll mix and match all of the storyline ideas.
I can write up if you want? Yes?
I'll think about some more ideas.
And if you don't mind, I could use the "Resource War" theme for a story concept ^^
(my idea wasn't a storyline suggestion, but a possible setting)
Hmm, it seems I'm kinda the "story guy" in more then one team XD
Haha! Greedy :P
That's fine with me. It's you're idea after all ;)
Like I said. We'll bounce ideas around anyway. We'll just use whatever the ending result is :)
Exactly ;)
But what can we do on Red Alert, that isn't Red Alert? :O
Total conversion you say.

/Rant Over!
Hmmm... Has this been done before?
A RA3 conversion to Generals?
As far as I know, it hasn't.
But EA could do a Bungie and shut us down half way thorugh development when they decide to take a stab at screwing up Generals 2.

I'm already writing like hell XD

So as I see I will must say good bye to you, as you dont interest me with another Earth-like mod.
I thought a space mod would be good!
We could test coding to the limits!
Well, as others only talk about a mod stationed on Earth, placing a space to the mod while there will be only a space around Earth, its boring and not very creative.
