This is my official Indie DB page for my new BGE game project in progress, Sparky.

Hello, everyone. I'm SolarLune, and I'm here to show you what I've got so far of my new game project, Sparky. It's being developed in the Blender Game Engine, and so far, is turning out pretty well.

The idea behind the game is that an impending alien invasion is threatening to destroy the Earth, and you play as none other than a radioactive dog named Sparky. Sparky must use his exceptional powers to fend off the invasion and make it home in time for a treat!

So... Yeah, the plot is out there. But at least it's different. ... I hope. I'm going to go for a very fast-paced, momentum-based game. It should be something like one of the more modern Sonic games - very fast-paced, and addictive to try to get a perfect run.

The main idea is that Sparky has radioactive powers - when activated, he can run faster, jump higher, run on walls and ceilings, and even attack enemies using his body. He can't keep this up forever, which is where the enemies and breakables in the game come in - by breaking them, he can keep up his ionization and his overall momentum.

I want this game to be something that people can post videos of on Youtube and get responses of, ":o - How did you clear that jump?!", "That was a sick run!". Also, I'm not going for a 8-bit or GBC aesthetic like with Soldier Of - the game will simply be 2D and pixellated. I'm taking liberties on everything else. >:)

Here's the playlist for the development log videos that I've started for the project - so far, there's just one. Here's also the latest (and first!) video. Note that I made the video before I improved on the graphics, so it's pretty rough around the edges.

By the way, I won't be stopping the development of Soldier Of (the other project I'm working on) for this. I'm going to work on them both together. One thing that spurred this project on towards creation was that I wanted to create something fun, and simple to play. This was the result - something that I could develop and work on gradually over time to make a fun, exciting project. In addition, the Blender Summer Game Competition was coming up, and if I wanted to enter, I would have needed a new project. So, it's two birds with one stone, I guess.

Thanks for reading, and I hope you follow and enjoy watching the progress made on this project of mine!

Looks really cool, and like Theon said, the movement seems really smooth :D

The momentum seems cool for this stage too :3

rather side off: can't wait to see more updates on Soldier Of.

Thanks. You should be able to play it soon. I don't want to hold this one away from the public for too long (I was thinking of alpha releasing it a la MineCraft, so demos would be in order before that point).

Man, everything that you show is awesome!

Though, I don't want you to fall into the trap of announcing and abandoning that new devs always fall prey to.

Your plan to make it Sonic-esque appeals to me a bit. I'd love for there to be alternate paths or a balanced ability system à la "Unlock powers and bring one to the level, that allows you to reach a certain path if you're good enough, and get a time boost".

Another suggestion, just so that I don't have to configure qjoypad when I (definitely) buy it, a controls setup that supports joypads would be wonderful. I would love you long time.

Just saw this today. Thanks! I like the idea for alternate paths (should definitely be a part of maps). The ability system also sounds like a good idea. This game could go a lot of different ways... Maybe each dog has several abilities, and you can choose from one to take into the map with you?

And joystick support's already working. ;)
