As Helios is progressing it was time to start on the combat system. First I started with the damage controlling. A click to slash seemed very boring. Therefore I decided to take the damage dealing a bit further.

For each monster the body parts will be wrapped in hitboxes. (as you can see below.)

Hitting the monsters on the head will deal a 30% damage bonus. When you hit the monster on the main body you will deal no bonus and a -20% reduction when hitting the legs.
Obviously when fighting a tiger this system won't be very interesting, but assume you are fighting a huge colossal dragon. You could either take the dangerous approach and slap the monster in the face, or you could play it safe and aim for the body and legs.

A problem I walked into was that the monster is animated and therefore the hitboxes need to move accordingly to the bone.

As you can see after a few tries I found a simple way to align the hitboxes with the monster.

And a little W.I.P. for our next post (Character design by Jonathan Thomas)
This character is still under development and is likely to change.

yay, body part hitboxes!
That's great, you could also make some sort of dismemberment to some parts of greater monsters, stuff like, again monsterhunter (ye I know ^^)
You can e.g. destroy the claws of monsters of headshields, on some dragons this has the effect that they can't use their fire aura.
