Currently were hard at work making the back end tech, and then everything will start to come together rather quickly we hope into gameplay form. While we will be releasing the Sandbox mode first, then moving on to other modes. Our ultimate destination is something we like to call Fort Wars.
In Fort Wars there is basically two or more teams, and each team has a vat which is their life source. The point of the game is just to destroy the other teams vat. A very simple premise... but hopefully will allow tons of strategy on how to do this task while still protecting your own vat. Especially when you consider the 3 main dimensions of the battlefield which is underground, on the ground, and in outer space all seamless and in real-time.
We hope when we finally release this mode players and teams will devise great strategies to out smart their opponents.
Some common questions we think teams will be asking themselves -
Where is it best to place your reasources to protect our vat?
How should the fort be built?
Should we try a tunneling strategy, use vehicles, or build into space and skydive down to the other teams vat?
Should we expand to other mineral outposts and play economy?
Should we destroy their economy then worry about the vat?
Will the other team rush?
The outcomes and possibilites will be almost unlimited. This is our vision for StarForge.

Amazing! Where do I throw my money?
At the screen my good fellow! :P
Whoa.
It's a... I'm not even going to bother listing the amount of genres anymore. Well, good luck, I'm looking forward to seeing more of this.
Looks good!
You guys should definitely check out King Arthurs Gold for research purposes because KAG happens to be very similar to your game, except far more simple and 2D sideview.

Personally I'm against competetive multiplayer and would vote for team conflict games to focus on cooperative action. This is because a competetive game like this will undoubtfully give you headaches with griefers and elitism when you release it. Its inherent to the design and it is destructive. Read this article to understand what I mean:

Neat, I love the look of King Arthurs Gold. I own Terraria, but I'll def have to get this one too. :|)
No worries on the competetive multiplayer. We will have cooperative action modes as well.
For example, a user doesn't have to make a game keep track of wins/loses when they host. As well, we will be offering a fort wars mode where people can just play against the A.I as a team.
Aside from these which pertain to Fort Wars. We will have the cooperative Sandbox Mode, a cooperative Fort Defense Mode, and some others which I cannot yet list that are both competitive and cooperative.
As for greifers we have some ideas up our sleeves, but multiplayer is a ways off yet so not much to say on that.
There are so many good ideas happening in this game right now. This is awesome.
Unlimited turrets? Sounds kinda unfair...
