Have you ever looked into what happened? Where you there? I doesn't look like it. The only one responsible for killing off FA1 is Alex. I clearly recall him posting on the old boards that there was NOT going to be a FireArms on Source. That finally killed off FA1, after he already ruined it in the years after 2.5 All he wanted to do is force the remainder of the FA1 community to his new mod called WaW (which died because of his pathetic leadership, read it on their own boards). The "site hijacking" is completely unrelated to FA2 and every connection between those 2 is just slander created out of thin air produced by the WaW team to force an honest attempt to revive the great game of FA. Perhaps if you were actually around during that period, you would have known what was going on.

Well isn't that just oh-so informative. People like those who support the progress of one of the greatest games of all time shouldnt be allowed to use the internet? As for FA2 killing of FA1 that is entirely too laughable. FA was in the process of being killed and Jon made every effort he could to save what little bit he could for the community. You may notice if you took the time to visit the FA2 forums a plethora of people from the FA1 forums flocked to the FA2 ones, and were happy when they found out the game they loved wasent flung into oblivion like "some" people would have wanted. Why don't you quit being an asshat, do some research, and make a intelligent, well thought out argument anyone over the age of 5 should listen to. Thank you.

FireArms2 has full legal permission. Nothing was stolen, FA1 was saved from it's death by these people.

The player base it had was a 'cult following', and was dwindling rapidly with the decline of the halflife engine being far beyond it's time for retirement. FA2 is trying to move to a newer engine, one that might not dwindle so quickly and as some have stated in the past 'what originally happened' doesn't matter at all. Especially to me. A new game to try and play, I'll take it. If you don't like it, don't play it, but stop being a bunch of whiney retards.

I love how people who know the least speak loudest and first. Firearms 2 has express written legal consent from the owner of the copyright to Firearms Eric "Zerk" Smith. We didn't hijack a website, and we didn't steal forums, contrary to what you've been told the people on the other side of the fence to this issue still have copies of everything. What was done originally was an attempt to make them KEEP FA around, not kill it. Firearms 2 wasn't conceived until months afterward, when it became clear that they would use the event as an excuse to transplant the remaining Firearms community on their new ****** game world at war. Since then they've quit making that, and left the community high and dry. FA2 is being made by a group of people that played Firearms for years before and still continue to do so. I know you all feel as if you're fully aware of all circumstances pertaining to "what happened", but I assure you just like with everything in life, there are always two sides to a story and in this circumstance we have been slandered grievously.

That's just the thing, only three of the team members for world at war were ever on the FA team, the FA2 team has four. Not to mention the fact that the original creator of the game Christian Oelund is a contributor for Firearms 2 and Eric Smith is the copyright holder. If we were so in the wrong and in fact thieves why would the pioneers of the Firearms game itself lend a hand in making FA2 for all of you to enjoy? If you look at the whole picture here, there are many missing pieces that I hope to fill in for you.
All I see is a post where they state they're on indefinite hiatus. And that was made last year.

I don't give a damn how you've justified it to yourself (except perhaps Smith...what the hell is he thinking?). You stand accused of stealing a website and complete mod source tree from under its owners' feet and consistently neglect to deny it, instead deciding you'll use spin to downplay the whole disgusting affair. Way to go about this in a respectful manner, you guys are good at the internet. The creators of World At War stated many times that it wasn't/isn't an extension of Firearms, I don't know where you got that information. There a plenty of posts that have visual evidence of the Firearms2 hijacking forums or mods. All of what you're saying is basically slander but on a level that shouldn't even be dignified with responses. Alas I feel when there are mongoloids posting information they so ignorantly praise; that I must post.
Firearms2 is going to be one of the greatest Source modifications out there, the same way Firearms was. The team have taken great steps in insuring that it has the same great feel of Firearms just diligently coded into Source. Obviously it could never feel an exact replica of Firearms because of the Source engine but I have a feeling I'll be playing the same way I played Firearms; Tons of friends and always a lot of fun. League play will be extra-competitive what with the PUGs on Firearms right now. I have the utmost faith in this game in that it will be top5 source games. Who needs cartoony graphics, one shot kills, and 10-15 respawn timers. Not me,kthnx. Firearms2 has the potential and it will fulfill it.

I have been a follower of the FireArms mod since RC2.5 was released on a PCGamer demo disc i had the good fortune to come by. I can remember when all this drama first happened, but at that point in time i had bigger fish to fry (college). Now that i have time on my hands again it breaks my heart to see all this slander against FA2. Regardless of the dev teams actions (and they have done nothing wrong imho), a game isn't just a bunch of code and models... its a community... and as far as i can see that community has remained in tact for approaching 8 years now.
I don't know about all of you but i happen to think the blood, sweat, and tears that have been shed are going to pay off big time! This mod looks great, and I am counting the days to its release!

Some of you guys need to get your facts straight.
I've been involved in the Development of the last HL1 Firearms Rc-3.0, doing animation for some of the neglected weapons for that final release.
I've been involved in Development of Incursion Mod (INC), Firearms:Source(FA:S), and now Firearms-2 FA:2.
I've been playing FA from 2.5 all the way through 3.0 as well.
Here are some facts.
Firearms:Source (FAS) from the beginning, has been built from CS:S content from the ground up, including textures, art, models, sounds, code, and anything else they could scrap together to try and pass this off as Firearms. I know this because I was on the development team and worked hands on for 6 months with the crew of FA:S.
Using CS:S as a base to make firearms, is not only an insult to what Firearms was about, but goes against everything Firearms was made for.
Firearms-2 (FA-2) has been built up from scratch, from nothing.
Everything that has been created for, and used in the development of FA-2 has been done by dedicated people who grew up playing Firearms(HL1)
and who are willing to bring the things they loved most about the game to the updated source engine with the quality of Halflife-2.
WAW, while it was a very impressive concept and good team behind it to make it happen, suffered the same fate as many mods have and real life intervened and they have since stopped development.
The FA-2 members have 1 goal, to bring the most true form of the game that all the Firearms players loved about it, and bring it to an updated engine with all the same quality, attention to detail and dynamics that the original Firearms team brought you.
And after playing both FAS, and FA-2 in development I know which one is the true game that deserves the name "Firearms".
This you will have to decide for yourself once we've released the game.

Firearms 2 There has been a great deal of speculation as to what Firearms 2 is, what it is about, why it has formed, who it was formed by, and what a gamer can expect from it. This project was from its conception formed because a dedicated few firmly believed that they could lead the name of Firearms to become something more that it previously was.

Perhaps you just have a twisted idea of the word "legal consent". You can make up hundreds of examples that would not make it sound like you just made it sound. There is no reason to change the name, so that's why the name is not being changed.

You seem to keep harping the fact that you have the support of one of the principles. No one knows what you did to convince him, whether he was paid off or whatever (laugh, but crazier stuff has happened in other mods). The basic fact is you backdoored a teams forums, stole their assets and took over. You may have legal rights now but morally and ethically you are still ....well....a piece of sh*t.
All I can say is you better hope your mod is flawless because you've set yourself up to look like complete jackasses if it isn't.
Stole assets? You mean created a copy of the forums so they would not have been deleted. There is quite a difference in that. Nothing was taken over since there was nothing to take over. FA1 had it's last release and was killed off by the FA1 team. The FA2 team (which was in no way involved in any stealing/taking over websites whatsoever) only ensured that FA would live on. That hardly makes anyone morally/ethically a piece of sh*t. Stop reading into the slander and stop spreading lies.
