Filefront is now due to close its doors at any point. Many mods, indies, maps, models and other files are only on Filefront and cannot be found on any other site. Save these files from been lost forever by uploading them to ModDB as soon as possible. We are currently working on a solution which will deliver these files to everyone visiting our site, fast and forever with zero wait - but we need your help to make sure we have an "up to date" file archive. We'll handle the rest... thanks for your support!
Filefront's lost files
Save mods and indies files to ModDB (if they are not already) before it is too late.

I don't know if you guys at ModDB read the news, but there were posts from n0e going around the internet, here's the post (may not be true):
MESSAGE FROM JEFF "n0e" MILLS
Hey all. I know many of you have eagerly been awaiting any sort of news as to what is going on and what we plan to do for the future.
To those that don't know I, along with a tremendous amount of help from folks like Phenix, and Ronnie are making backups of all of the network sites and we plan on moving to a new network of fan sites that will be open soon. For legal reasons we may not be able to include the items such as reviews, potd's and other various bits of information on the sites. However, with the permission of the modders we will retain all of the files. Those who do not wish to continue having their files hosted on the new network need only contact me after the first of the sites are online. I'll see to it that they are promptly removed per your request. We will not hassle you about it or tell you to '***** off'. Just remember that we're restoring a database so please don't get upset after seeing them initially. We respect your copyrights.
There will be forums up and running sometime hopefully next week. When they are up I will provide a link here so you know where to go from then on. I certainly hope to see many familiar faces and even new ones. There will be a clean slate for those coming back as well. If you were banned for whatever reason, you are allowed to return and given a second chance.
The new network and forums will have one more thing that I'm sure will make everyone happy. There will be NO corporate involvement. Things will be run by people who actually play games for people who play games.
I'll have more news for everyone as it's available. I wish to thank everyone for their continued patience and I'm certainly cannot wait to have the good parts of FileFront return while just trimming out the bad.
Thanks!
Jeff 'n0e' Mills
modDB.com already exists, and is already popular, so I'll still upload files here, also on other networks which offer it. We have all seen what happens if you have all your files on just one network and it disappears...
Good news. I really hope a new network will grow up which will host the old files from filefront. Otherwise a huge database is gone forever :-(
The bad part of filefront in question: It decides to die without giving any sort of advanced notice.
I'm still not quite sure about that. Any chance that it might be a bad April Fool's joke...
No, it isn't. Shacknews.com
This started about 6 days before April!
Ziff Davis would not be so stupid and make a joke like this.
They would louse the trust and respect of the community!
And it is the community contributing and practically building these gaming sites.
It seems every there will be backups. The community is gathering as well.
Forum.strategyinformer.com
Forums.gameapollo.com
That's all.
i haven't lost any files yet, neither have i seen corrupt download links, or am i the only one? i could be terribly wrong, but what if this is going to be the biggest April Fool ever in game history? I bet tomorrow they will say April Fool, XD
The files are still on the servers but not linked on the site.
Is there any way other way to access them?
I am glad to hear that they are coming back as a better site. I don't want to have to resort to fileplanet if possible. Thanks for the news Robok
so what, they come back as another site & then in a year shut that down too? So was this all a PR stunt for a group who worked there to pimp their own site while the other one gets shut down?
I don't think you understand the problem here, FileFront originally being run by a commercial company, the company pulled the plug on the site since they couldn't fund it any longer, but the people behind it still want to continue offering what they once did, separate from their mother-company, this is why they're trying to back it up on a DIFFERENT host, not a publicity stunt.
R.I.P
B00! DON'T REST IN PEACE!
Seriously. We dont want it to RIP. Come back or stay alive! Your files are irreplaceable.
I have over 4 gigs from the Bridge Commander Files!
And i feel with you :´(
:( so long file front, we'll miss you.
sure was a good server.
Copy that. Well people, is time by recopilate ALL the mods and indie games and the rest of material and start to upload here.
I know, sounds veeery mistic and impossible, but for now we don´t have choise.
Please, come back when the crisis and!
:(
i have a feeling its an april fool's since they had to stop activity on the 30 of march tho they are still running...
well this truly sucks. fingers crossed they will post some announcement along the lines of "april fools!", and we can all have a good laugh later. ah well.
All the oldest version of SGSC were on Filefront :'(
I'd hurry up to get it then piper, because right now I checked it and they seem to be online for some reason.
this is a dark day for mods
Great. 48TB of files...gone. Damn financial crisis.
No other announcement yet...
Nevertheless one good news: The files are accessable again!
Dunno why, but they recovered the DL Section :)
Good to know that ModDB is working on a solution to the problem. However, it's also true that you can download files from FileFront - at least for now (today I have downloaded some files from there and it worked perfectly).
When I was sleeping it was still alive and now I'm awake and its still alive.....still alive
STILL ALIVE!
Welcome.gamefront.com
filefront is now independent and reactivated, i say reinstate it as a mirror
Thank goodness that FileFront was saved, the original site creators bought the FileFront domain back from Ziff Davis Media (the company which owned the site and had intention to go ahead and shut down FF).
In addition, this was NOT an April Day's Joke, FileFront was indeed going to shut down.
Welcome back, Independent FileFront!!!
It is great to see they are back, but Ziff Media caused thousands of people to spend millions of dollars downloading as much content as they could. Shame they could not have talked to the original owners before they made a hasty announcement of closure. Well done Ziff Inc...
IT`S BACK ONLINE APRIL 2nd!!!!
It was bought by the original staff. ;)
Its a miracle! Filefront is really saved from extinction! LOOK HERE!!!!! Welcome.gamefront.com
