We are super excited to show you the first, pre-alpha, gameplay footage from Festival of Magic! Yes, that is right! We also have a proper name now! Project FoM is now Festival of Magic!
We also had our first video interview in Norway where one of the largest newspapers are running a very popular video game web show where we were talking about Festival of Magic and showing some some bits and pieces of the pre-alpha gameplay video you guys can see under!
We hope you enjoy!
For the Norwegian speaking crowd, click here for the interview over at Level Up/VGTV.
Cheers,
The SnowCastle Games team
this is beatifull, reminds me of FinalFantasyX because of the diamond / door system and the battle system, cant wait for the release!
Thank you! So cool to hear that you like how it looks so far! Hopefully it'll be even better down the line ;)
yeah the music is such an excellent tribute to final fantasy, I feel like you guys have drawn a bit of inspiration from the series (the battle music sound like FFIX from memory)
I know it pre-alpha but the fights dont seem as intense as the music is, perhaps a bit more flash/flare to them so they seem as exciting as the music makes it feel. Other than that it looks tip top, I love it.
We have Eiko Ishiwata doing the music, she is a huge FF fan, and so are we :)
The battle system is a placeholder, and we'll make sure to make new videos when we have the actual battle system in place (which we think is awesome ;) )
looking very cool already and the music score is brilliant, cant wait to see more :)
Wow, everything is simply awesome. The music, the looks. Keep it up! ;)
Thank you! We're so glad you like!
design is really nice. although are all these text interruptions really necessary?
Thanks!
It's a very valid question.
We don't know exactly where we will land when it comes to the amount of dialog. We will try to keep it at a minimum while still being able to tell a deep and trilling story. It will also be optional in the sense that you might not need to trigger all the dialogue, but if you like to explore, then there will be depth for you. We will of course try to tell the story with other means than just text. Since it is a game we have lots of tools at our disposal - we just need to use them.
don't be mistaken, I like stories and dialogs. However in some rpgs one thing that bothered me was that they abruptly break the gameflow. Perhaps you should keep this option for those who actually like it, and add another where the dialogs can be seen/heard but not pausing gameplay. For instance it could be a classic textbox at the bottom of the screen where the message is displayed with the character icon, or simply keep the bubbles but have them vanish a few seconds later. There's ton of possibilities. It's your game though, your decisions.
Thanks for the critique/thoughts! Great to hear! I've been thinking about it since I saw your comment yesterday, and like Bendik says we are not sure how to balance out everything yet, but maybe bunching together dialogue at POI's instead of littered throughout the game is a better option. In the video we just went ahead and clicked on everything we had put in there which might have been overkill, haha. Again; thank you for the input! It is much appreciated!
forgot to add that your composer is outstanding and creates a really good atmosphere - just lovely!
Thank you! Yeah, she's awesome! Super talented!
@JPMMazur: Agreed!
We will make sure not to break up the gameflow more than absolutely necessary. Have you seen how they did the dialogue in Diablo3? I think they did it very well as it does not break the gameflow but rather just add a narrative layer on top of the hack'n slash gameplay.
I'm loving everything about FoM so far , keep up the good work!
