Eidolon is out! You can download it right here.

EIDOLON

I started the mod as a way to put some music I had written a few years ago into a game; the original idea was for the world to be constructed in the exact opposite of a regular Portal 2 level. Instead of making an enclosed space, the game world is a void with a few solids in it floating around. There were a lot more design challenges in making a good map like this (and with good puzzles) than I expected.

While it might've taken longer than I expected, the mod is definitely out now(!)

Sadly, you cannot pack custom soundscripts into maps. Furthermore, the custom textures would need to be packed into every single map, making the full thing something like 5 times the size it would need to be.

I originally planned on a workshop release, but the game only works as a mod.

If your computer can run Portal 2, you should be able to run mods on it without any problem. Certainly these maps are somewhat less demanding than some vanilla maps.

5 years ago I had a pc with a crappy 2.2 ghz 1 core amd and an ati radeon x1600 pro.
I was able to run Portal 2 at nearly 60 fps in native resolution, low-med settings. Are you on a laptop or something?

nice mod, thanks for making it! definitely differs from vanilla and looks cute
one bug I found is that you can't load a saved game. I did it through console command "load 131231243"

As above: you cannot pack soundscapes or vscripts into individual maps. Because the workshop requires things to be uploaded one map at a time, the remaining assets like skins and brush materials would also need to be duplicated in every map. A workshop release would be at least 5 times the size of this one and lack the music and some of the automation.
