Edain Mod 4.3.1 Demo Released!


Greeting, Companions of Edain!


Today we released the Patch 4.3.1 for the demo of version 4.0. You can download it directly through the Update function of the Edain-Launcher.

If you do not yet have a version installed, you can download version 4.3 as complete setup package by clicking on the banner. Please note that patch 4.3.1 still has to be downloaded through the Update function of the Edain Launcher.

New Features in 4.3.1:


-Many errors and inconsistencies have been fixed for a better gameplay experience. Among other things, the Rohan exile camp no longer generates infinite resources and the Legendary Heroes game mode should work without problems.

- Durmarth has been completely reworked and his appearance as guardsman adjusted to the current design of the Shadow Guard. He still excels at killing enemy heroes and protecting your own, but no longer freezes enemies.

-Due to unfixable errors Beregond has been reworked and will now only act in melee. In return, he packs even more powerful defensive abilities.

- Follow the Path of the Edain and explore the Evil that hides beneath Mount Gundabad with your own custom heroes. Check out the largest map ever created for Battle for Middle-earth with over 5 floors and more than 60 halls and rooms. Which choices will you make?

- Instead of the Barricade Mordor now has a new ability in its Spellbook: Sauron's Deadliest Servants. This unlocks all upgrades for the Nazgûl and fixes unsolvable bugs with the previous mechanic tied to Sauron's influence.

- Based on feedback of the community Gulzar and Mornamarth are now located in Angmar's outpost. You have to choose between them by research the outpost upgrade for the Men of Carn Dûm or the sorcerers. This makes that choice more impactful and Angmar's fortress less crowded with heroes.

- New Soundsets are waiting to be discovered, e.g. for Dain Ironfoot and the Dragonslayers. Our sincere thanks go out to the user Gimilzar!

- Some abilities now come with their own appropriate Hero Animations, e.g. Bofur'sChain Quake and Durmarth's Shield of the Guardsman.

- And many more changes!

Additionally there's been some rebalancing:


- Rhudaur Axe Throwers: Damage decreased by 10%

- Carn Dûm Bowmen: Now double their attack speed after the second consecutive volley instead of the third

- Snow Bind: Increased cost to 3 points

-Fell Wind: Increased reload time

- Avalanche: Decreased damage against buildings and units

- Outbreak: Decreased damage

- Summoned hilltrolls: Health and armor adjusted to normal troll values

- Rogash: Decreased damage and leap damage

- Gulzar's Plague Bearers: Decreased damage

- Hwaldar: Decreased damage and health

- Mornamarth:
*Decreased health
*Weakened effects of Blood and Iron

- Helegwen:
*Freezing Arrows now slow down by 40%
*Gift of Winter increases slow down by 50% instead of doubling it (meaning 60% in total)
*Shortened time until Frost Arrow Rain strikes down

- Zaphragor:
*Slaughtering Stride now only knocks back units, not heroes or monsters
*Reload time of his ultimate ability increased by 50%
*Damage reduced

- Uruk Scouts: Increased melee damage by 10%

- Rohirrim (including Exiles, Royal Vanguard, Military-Camp-Variant), Axe Rohirrim and Warg Riders: Increased melee and trample damage by 10%

- Lorien Citadel and Mirkwood Citadel: Adjusted health and armor to be in line with other factions' citadels

- Mirkwood Archers: Increased damage with and without Silverthorns

- Ram Riders:
*Decreased damage
*Drastically increased recruitment time for the Scout

- Heroes are now slightly more vulnerable to melee attacks by regular units

- Temple of Twilight: Costs increased to 800

- Sorcerers of Angmar:
*Cost increased to 700, command points to 120 (same values as elite archers)
*Black Ice: Acolyte costs set to 3 and slow down adjusted to 40%
*Fell Strength: Acolyte costs set to 3. Effects enemies and allies in targeted area: Enemies deal -30% damage for 30 seconds, allies deal +30% damage for 30 seconds
*Soul Freeze: Acolyte costs set to 4. Radius decreased to 20% and duration set to 5 seconds. Now properly grants invulnerability for the duration
*Well of Souls: Decreased damage and healing
*Corpse Rain: Decreased damage by 25% and no longer knocks back enemies

- Increased melee damage of the Witch-king

Personally, I feel that the witch king has very very little value in Agmar. While playing it, his abilities aren't all that great, save for Favor of the witch king, and his attacks are far too weak. I had a battle with Isengard, and sharku killed him. I like the morgul blade mechanic, because it allows to bring forth an army of wights, but his abilities beyond that, I'd say need a fix. I've always kind of felt the ability to reset other heroes ability timers wasn't very useful. Seeing as how, in the end, it'd be much easier for the witch king, of all people, the man who was feared as a powerful user of dark magic, could probably just kill them.

The thing is though, in this rendition, it kinda seems like he can't. Even when he gets the one ring, I feel like his power is just...meh. And to me, it's kind of a disappointment, seeing as the Witch King is supposed to be the king of agmar, and the oh great lord of the iron crown.

I love the work you guys have done, but to me, the Witch king hero of Agmar, is just....really underwhelming.

I completely agree. I was so dissapointed when I first created it and even got the ring at the same time and he was like super underpowered. Very, very dissapointed. He needs a massive rework, maybe even from scratch.

I totally agree with you. I think that the Witch King is too weak and not totally centered in the Angmar faction, while Sauron is perfect as great leader of Mordor faction. I'll like for Angmar a something like that...
And another point for me is the Troll: I'll very like to recruit them in a outpost, and not with a spell for a limited time. Angmar is a realm of dark man, sorcerer, wolf and troll, in the original Rise of the Witch King we can create troll, wolf, man and sorcerer, I'd like to do the same thing here, but is just my personal opinion.
Anyway, great work as always, this mod is the best!

I agree to some extent. Although, the Witch-King's ability to reset enemy hero abilities is incredibly useful, do not underestimate it. Especially in competitive play, some hero abilities can change engagements, but they are then unable to use them.
However, I do kind of agree that the Witch-King has the spotlight stolen from him by the other heroes. The thing is that even in vanilla the Witch-King was seen as hugely overpriced and somewhat of a crappy hero apart from his large debuff.
Furthermore, I don't even like the idea of giving the ring to the Witch-King because of lore. I would rather have Mornamarth or Gulzar have access to the ring of power, especially now with the line draw between them and the other heroes with the new outpost division.
He is not only Angmar's greatest warrior, but also his greatest sorcerer. As such, Gulzar is pretty much superfluous, and Zaphragor's position is debatable.

That said, the faction is still young. Give it time.

Totally agree with this. I think it's a "problem" that already existed in the official game,a nice rework would'nt be bad at all, we trust in the Edain Team

Nice updates, glad you guys are updating Angmar and fixing the Exiles Camp glitch. Out of curiosity will you guys nerf Angmar's tribute cart system considering how you insanely quickly you can get resources with only a few settlements.
Also I think Drauglin is really weak considering his low health and despite how he's suppose to be an anti-creep hero, he's very weak against the stronger creeps like trolls and wargs. Also I agree with KingAsmodeus's comment on the Witch King. His hour of the witch king ability is pretty weak if not flat out useless in a large engagement.

I'm getting an issue with the pop cap. I saw there's a comment on the main release about this too, but thought I'd mention it in case it's been patched unsuccessfully. When playing with two human players, the second person always seems to be limited.

In legendary heroes mode, they are limited to 900. In epic battle, the pop cap then seems normal, rather than the 10x epic. Player 1 got over 7000 instantly.

It definitely makes multiplayer a bit of a pain to play evenly!

I happen to have an issue with Galadriel, who for some reason, dissapears after a real time battle in War of the Ring, if I click on her army banner afterwards, the game crashes.

I got the game just now and played the skirmish a few times and I think there something funny with the Ai. I've been playing easy just to get a handle on the new factions and how all the systems work, and by Sauron left buttock is the AI aggressive.
It's not acting at all like what I expect from an Easy AI, I've seen it throw it's starting soldiers at castle walls, (one of the witch fortress maps, Cain something) just to get riddled with arrows, form massive army's the are hard to beat back, form navy's to bombard shore targets, use naval transports (i think some troops may have sneaked by and I noticed them near a boat or something), and aggressively expands., on easy I repeat. It's really hard for to just figure out all the new mechanics with even the 'rookie' AI braying for my blood from the starting gun.

(face Palm) I'll be honest: I forget battle for middle earth had that feature. I still think somethings a bit off with the AI, but the handicap feature means it's a bit meaningless since i can tweak it my self. Sorry to waste your time.

Well next patch please fix that the Sorcerers can kill the army of the dead with that green skull stike from the sky (Sorry I don't remember it's name)

If I remember correctly, Army of dead can kill someone with magic damage - for example Silverthrone arows, gandafs blast or yours skull strike etc.

There are game mdoes to get more units. (you can get like 10 times more units) But we won't make more units available for the normal mode, because the game is not made for so many units - it will slow down a lot and will crash much more often.

Isengard is too strong: the AI isengard in brutal can kill 5 AI men in team vs him. All AI are not balanced. The mordor barricade was necessary and orcs dont make damage vs others starting troop (scout uruk hai,Rhudaur spearmen, etc) and the orcs bowmen is too expensive for their damage as the rhudaur axe throwers or the uruk crossbowman.
I like soo much Mordor, but actually is not strong vs the others factions.

Well, the orc warriors are free... But I can suggest you to make towers in your base when you play as Mordor, and a second orc pit. That way you can pump out orcs and defend rather well against enemies. Then again it's just a suggestion, you can do anything you want ^_^.

Team, sorcerers of Angmar are not healing units at all. Not even slowly. They are useless. Hope you can fix that.

Rohan is both overpowered and not all that rohany. I encounter 2, maybe 3 cavalry units per 10 peasants. They use the same strategy every time - build a farm as close to your base as possible, then spam an army of peasants, which can kill highly trained,armored mirkwood swordsmen with ease....and Eowyn is wayyyyy to strong. She beat the WK because she was lucky, not because she was stronger than him, and she can kill him with ease in game.

Are you talking about AI? Balance is NEVER made for AI. If you want a balanced game, then play MP, because the AI is always cheating. Additionally the witchking is a mass slayer in edain - therefore he is strong vs many weak troups, but weak vs heroes.
Eowyn on the other hand is a strong hero killer. Therefore she is weak vs many troups, but strong vs heroes.^^

Also, I seem to have come across a bug. When playing in skirmish, or war of the ring, I believe on elimination mode? I will beat the enemy, and then the game will not end. It even states "We have crushed an enemy!" then I'm just stuck in game with nothing to do.

Also, previously as stated before, The Witch King really does need an overhaul. I like everything about Agmar, but I literally don't even use the witch king because he's so useless. I don't even give him the one ring because his one ring abilities are the same, and he basically gets nothing out of it.

His ability slows the training of units.

In Return of the King, the witch king destroyed a staff of Valar with Dark Magic. He's known for Morgul Sorcery in the movies, why not give him some dark magic abilities when he gets the ring....or, even when he's just spawned.

He's supposed to be the strongest nazgul, the most deadly lord, and the destroyer of Free Men. Like, this guy to me, seems like someone stuck a witch king costume on and tried to fake being him. He's supposed to be The mighty Witch King of Agmar, the Mighty Iron Crown of the North, but in this game he seems more like....that dude who will just..kinda slow your training time a bit. ooooo, spoopy. Fear him.

When i take epic battle, i'd like to have my 7200 command points in every map include all the fortress map! ( helm deep, minas thirit, minas morgul, etc) i think i'm not the only one!

Maybe you should do a fix of ring hero because ai wont have any ring heroes even though they have the ring.

and also Witch King is too underpowered, the last skill of the witch king is reseting abilities,i think it will be better if the last skill is the hour of the witch king, which is the one with similar effect like the word of power

We disabled ring heroes for the AI, because the game always crashes as soon as the AI tries to use it. ;)

I've encountered a bug while playing skirmish with Angmar, I chose to play the big armies mode, and sometimes I start the game with 420 CP, sometimes with 7200 and sometimes 18000, the problem is that, whenever i start with 18000 CP or 7200 CP it has a glitch and the CP constantly changes to 420 and then gets back to normal, then again 420 etc .. making it kind of impossible to build big armies. I have to wait till the CP changes back to 18000 and this only lasts like 2 mins. then back to 420 CP.
This only happens with Angmar tho ...

Btw, looking forward to see Azog and the Misty mountains faction, cheers !
