Post news Report RSS EA shutting down around 50 old game servers

EA announces a number of game servers to be shut down.

Posted by on

Hello, Community.

Today I found out some quite sad news for all of us who enjoys earlier EA titles online.

On the 30th of June this year, EA has planned to shut down the servers for about 50 odd older games due to the lack of online activity.
The titles include both our very own Tiberium Wars, as well as Generals (Including Zero Hour), Kanes Wrath and even the Red Alert 3 online servers. The list also includes a number of Battlefield titles (Including Battlefield 2) and the first two Crysis games.

My personal hopes is that there can be a solution simillar to XWIS who took over the old C&C-title servers (Such as old-Renegade, Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2).

I really hope they find a solution to keep up C&C servers. Otherwise there will be another reason to dislike EA.

Just to let you know. here in the Netherlands they shut down one of their main office buildings because of "negative feedback of customers" (Dutch guys just showed their hate towards EA already) "deal with it EA... deal with it..."

Well, it are the gameSPY servers. It's still a wonder they were working.

I think so too. One way or another, if the servers do go down for the games we really enjoy, I believe there is a way to overcome this.

its because of gamespys closure. they didn't decide to shut them down, they decided not to move them onto steamworks or similar. many of them are dead anyway.

probably also BF2 and before.
Well we could have seen that one coming with those "new-****-gen money-making" BF games.

Love for BF1942 is IMO still the best of all of them. (my opinion)

BF 1942 will probably still work if you download the free version through Origin. Since that version uses Origin for as its master server.

I also hope the fans create a XWIS-like solution to those games.

I could not play them before because I don't have a PC that can run them, and I want to play them as soon as I get a PC capable of running them.

It will really suck if I can't play those games online after years wanting to play them. :(
