Like a phoenix, we shall rise from our ashes. A deep apology is due for the sudden death of the mod, and without explanation. Each member of the team, myself included, had to succumb to our normal lives instead of the project and it eventually caved in on itself. However, I'm bringing this project back to life.

Four years ago, I had a team of about 4 or 5 people working on this gigantic project: to remake Final Fantasy VII for the Source Engine from a first person perspective with real-time combat and lots of bells and whistles. While the core concept was well known, behind the scenes we had been adding features and side-projects into the mod that super-overloaded us and eventually killed the spark, because real progress wasn't being made anymore. Between constantly throwing new ideas into the mix, and personal lives getting in the way, the project died.

This haunted me for the last 4 years, quite often, and I'm tired of thinking "what if." I'm bringing this project back to life, even if it's by myself. And I'm doing things differently; I have far more knowledge, stronger conviction, and solid ideas for the project and how to run it. Here is the summary of the changes to the original plan:

The game will be made in Source 2
There will not be a multiplayer mode
Party Members will follow a gambit system (similar to FF12 and the upcoming FF15)
Combat is being re-conceptualized to be far more versatile and fun (summons, limit breaks, etc.)
Immersion will be a big priority; more details on that in the future

Obviously, even by removing the MP component and making the above changes (though I realize the original concepts that those changes weren't made public) to scale the project down so that it's more feasible, this is still a huge project for one person. I'm going to do everything I can to make it the experience we all want it to be. In an effort to get my ideas out there, and to show what can be possible and to spark some excitement, I'm going to be releasing a demo of the project: a short, simple, sweet little taste of the game that I know can be developed to at least get something out there. Now, this is a ways off, considering Source 2 isn't quite out. I'm working in Source 1 but experiencing a ton of bugs that are greatly impeding my progress, but I'm still going to do what I can until Source 2 comes out so I can import at least the maps.

While I'm determined to do this, even if alone, I am of course open to helping hands! The more help the project has, the higher chance of it happening in a timely fashion. Talented help can also shed light on ideas and concepts that can make the game even better, as well. So if anyone with any form of talent is willing to lend a hand, please contact me either on MODDB or my email: raayve@gmail.com.

Thank you for your patience, support, and understanding!

Good luck and watch out for Squeenix. They always C&D fan projects based on their IP, ESPECIALLY FF7.

Thanks! Yeah, that's been something looming in the back of my mind for a while. Fortunately, I'm releasing it as a free mod and won't profit from it, so it should fall under fair use (theoretically).

so long as you dont sell it then yea you ARE protected under the free and fair use clause of the Copyright Act of 1976, 17 U.S.C. ยง 107 here in the US.

So keep calm and mod on my friend :)
