Over the past several months since our demo release, FriendlyFire has been working on fine tuning our DX9 integration as well as adding a few extra components to make this mod look even better. The below video highlights these news additions: lens flare, improved dynamic lighting, reflection maps, distortion maps and our work in progress shadow mapping.

Utterly mind bogglingly amazing, great work! Those distortion maps are off the rails.

lol. Thanks!
Epic.
Thanks! Glad you like it!
can't wait for release!
Neither can we, let me tell ya!
This keeps looking more and more like a modern game, rather than a game from 9 years ago! Excellent work.
Also, I have a quick question regarding the dynamic lighting. Since it seemed like not every individual laser projectile shown in the video has an accompanying dynamic light, is it possible for every laser projectile to be represented by a light, or is it not possible due to technical limitations?
Nope, every laser has its own dynamic lighting. Sorry if that didn't come across in the video. What happens if there are several bunch together, their lighting is combined.
All the lasers do have lights.
Sorry if this has been asked before. But will it be possible to disable all these effects so I can play your game with my 8 year old computer which runs Freelancer perfectly but fails at new games?
Yes, it will be able to disable all the DX9 integration. That said, we do have several models that have higher polygon count and texture resolution which work fine on more modern computers but might cause your 8 yr old machine some difficulties.
The absolute minimum configuration required is a GeForce 7000 series/Radeon X1000 series graphics card. If you have something older, it is very unlikely that the mod will run.
Note that this does not mean the game will run well, just that it will run at all.
Looks like I need a new graphics card
I remember playing the original version of this mod. Much fun. And I have freelancer reinstalled and just waiting for you to release this so the fun can begin again.
well, there are two "original" versions of this mod since we combined the freeworlds and tides of war teams. That said, we look forward to release too!
While the lens flare looks nice I'm not so sure about that smudge effect on the screen itself that reflects it. Doesn't really fit to the 3rd person perspective IMO.
Other stuff looks great though.
Out of this world fantastic!!! 8D

My eyes literally widened when I saw the distortion maps! Great work.
