Hello, folks. Long time no update, yes? Yes. Agreed.
Now that we have that out of the way, I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you a brief teaser trailer I made. A teaser trailer of what, you ask? Of lightning, my friends. Behold:
Yes, the rumors are true - I have not forgotten about my twelfth sound design development diary, which features the improvements I am making to the weather system using my favorite medium (hint: it's audio). I spent a significant amount of time recording storms last year in the Rockies, and you may remember my excitement when I posted the audio for the strike that nearly hit me (it missed by about 15 feet, thankfully). Well, I've organized much from those sessions and recently implemented them into our weather system with some advice from @vincentswtc of the Stalker Weather Total Conversion mod. I sped up the strike frequency in the teaser to demonstrate the utter madness that occurs in 360º all around the player. All audio is pulled randomly from my library of dozens and dozens of thunder strikes, all recorded by me.
Yup, that's right. This thunder you are hearing is all from my personal library, recorded by yours truly for L.U.R.K. 1.2. Finally, you won't have another mod that uses the same old sounds from the same old free libraries found online. This shit is legit, as they say. Well, I'm pretty sure that's what they say.
Dev Diary 12 will showcase the implementation of:
- distant thunder (for strikes several miles away) audio
- stereo thunder audio
- mono, positional thunder audio
- rain drops on the actor's clothes
- exterior audio environments that match the weather, now with two-channel integration
- interior audio environments that match the weather
- and other stuff I've forgotten
Stay tuned, folks. I know it has been a long wait, but we've got more coming.
