Diablo III will release in early 2012, Blizzard has confirmed.

In a statement, CEO Mike Morhaime said the delay is to allow Blizzard to improve the game before its release.

"With every game we make, the temptation is always very strong to launch as soon as possible," Morhaime said. "However, we didn't put so many years of work into Diablo III to release a game that was almost ready."

Blizzard will extend the Diablo III beta, allowing for further testing and "potentially adding more testers than initially projected," according to a press release.

"The beta test is going very well, and we look forward to making the most of the extra time we're taking to deliver an experience that lives up to our vision for the game and the expectations of our players," Morhaime said. "Next year is going to be an incredibly busy one for Blizzard, and we hope an incredibly fun one for Blizzard gamers."

No further launch details were released, but expect more announcements to come via the game's official site.

What a shock. /sarcasm.

I expected as much. I don't mean that in a bad way, either.

Hopefully to fully deliver the PC version of the game without the limitations imposed by multi-platform (console) development.
Too many releases this year have all been plagued by the sickness of "consolization".
