The Past 24 hours have been an extremely exciting one for Slipstream: The Price of Freedom. Last Night, I had a very interesting idea to combine the Mac OS X version of TPOF, and the PC version of TPOF. First you must understand why there was a fork in the source code. The Mac OS X version Homeworld2 cannot support DDS files written outside of the game itself (IE. The menu system), else OpenGL won't parse the file correctly, and the game crashes. However, it supports TGA files for the menu system. The only draw back is that TGA files were always too heavy to package, and took up too much space. Well, with a little thinking I was able to jam the size down on the TGA file, and Introduce the menu system in a whole new way. Instead of the Actual menu being embedded on the background, it is a separate entity, which means I would only need to have the background and the menu. This actually brings the size down to about 8mb (compared to the 10mb the DDS took up), and now works on both PC and Mac OS X! With some other adjustments, I hope to merge both lines again, and you will only need to download 1 version of TPOF for Both Platforms.

I'm not sure who heard and who did not, but Wine, the Open Source Windows Emulator for POSIX systems (thats Linux/Unix systems for the technologically impaired) now supports Homeworld2. So today, I announce that TPOF support will be attempted on these platforms. (As soon as I get my old hard drive out and install OpenSolaris and Ubuntu). I encourage that anyone running these platforms with homeworld2 working in WINE, please test our Mod, and send me a personal message if it works/does not work. Thanks!

One Last thing, Later today or tomorrow evening we are looking at a release of v2.2 for both Mac OS X and Windows (with minimal Linux/Unix support). A Trailer below to quell your thirst for now. Thank you, that is all for now!

These are all good things. I'd like to announce my return to modding as well, and I'll be submitting concepts for 2.3 as soon as i can.
