Firing Up The Forge

Brian’s been working away on the code for the forge this week, and it’s shaping up nicely. The forge is an important part of the crafting system, and when it’s introduced we’re expecting it to boost production massively in-game.

The forge works much like a crate, in that you can place your gathered items in it and leave them safely. You can then set it up to craft what you need, and walk away to wait for the items to be completed. This form of automated crafting will see players able to create large quantities of building materials and furniture, opening up a lot of possibilities. Setting up a production line for your unique hand-drawn golden thrones could be a reliable trade, or perhaps you could start manufacturing high-end weapons for your clan?

In addition to this, Brian’s been adding categories to the crafting system - structures, tools, etc., which should make the whole experience much smoother and easier to navigate.

Enter The Golem

The hot topic on the art side this week has been the latest creature to enter the production line - the stone golem. Mike’s been running through inspirations and a few early concepts this week, and we’re hoping to have some sketches to share soon.

The golem is an interesting addition, in that it’s a very different type of creature than those we’ve already introduced. The fauna of CardLife has until now consisted of wolves and bears, and with a couple of more high-fantasy styled creatures to come (the imp and the goblin) this was a good chance to look at a more technological beast.

While we don’t have anything to show just yet, we do have a more advanced shot of the previously-announced raptor - here he is in an in-engine scene, textures and all!

Our New Animator!

This week, we’ve welcomed a new member to the CardLife team - our new animator, Matt!

An extreme sports enthusiast who enjoys nothing more than kite surfing and mountain biking, Matt’s come to us with a background in Film and TV, and is already getting hooked on CardLife! With a wide range of creature types to work with, Matt’s looking forward to bringing them all to life - as soon as we have some cool new animations to share, you’ll see them here first!
