Visually it was okay but the gameplay really wasn't there in my opinion.

There is no clear sense of direction, visuals were far too cluttered and made it hard to work out what to do next. At the start I spent 15 minutes looking for a small doorway that was tucked away in the darkness. Everything else in that area was dragging my attention away from where I should have been headed. You cant assume the player will know where to go next. Also, the combat started far too early, I had barely had time to look at my pistol before being attacked by 4 hound-eyes and then by half a dozen soldiers.

You honestly need to get some good play-testers to frequently test the mod and work on the gameplay first. It may look nice but at the end of the day, if the gameplay isn't fun, neither is the mod.

Relax, if you want the mod to get better you need to take onboard constructive criticism. If you're just going to get offended and complain that I'm being too harsh or something because it's a "Demo Version 1.0" then the quality of the mod will not improve.

When I give constructive criticism it is so you can identify any faults in the mod and work towards fixing them. As the mapper it is very hard to have a good idea of how fun a map is to play without having someone play it and watching what they do.

Also, demo's are usually for hyping up a mod, gaining interest in it, but the demo is supposed to reflect on the quality of the finished product. If you're saying that because it's a demo, by default it's not as good as the real thing then the whole point of the demo is flawed. If the demo was to satisfy the community's hunger for content then it is in vein. People will always want more, 1 screenshot is not enough, neither will 1 demo be enough.

Also, I saw L4D models in there. You didn't even credit L4D in the credits.

So just take any criticism on board, work on polishing and improving the mod and don't waste time with demos that serve no purpose.

I second that.

I found the vents weird. In first area it was loosely blocking the way and you couldn't go through, yet later you can go to vents with properly attached hatches. Any reason for this?

Houndeyes take too much ammo. When they showed up, I thought it's the same ol' Half-Life way: 3-4 bullets into it's eyes and that's done. NO! I emptied pretty much my entire mag to get rid of one. Also, houndeyes' blastwave is bugged, it goes thru walls.

Maps didn't really give direction where to go, everything was so cluttered with props. Also, physics props everywhere? But then some smaller props aren't physics. Eh.. reason for this? Then there's this theme.. what theme? It wasn't clear where I was. It had office(s), conference room, rather large electronic machines on walls, barrels..

AI needs work. Most of the time (soldiers) stood still and were waiting for me to emtpy my shells on them..

Level design looked cool, you certainly know detailing. Now, just learn to place it correct places in good amounts. Everything doesn't have to be physics props. I didn't catch the story. I'll look forward to this to see what's next.

Reason for Houndeye :

Wilson Chronicles have Beretta AND Glock. Glock is better than the Beretta.
Houndeye is a small npc's with the size, he is not a small npc's for kill it.
I think the skill.cfg need improvement because it's "very" hard to kill houndeye.

AI => Valve , I think AI need improvement.

The path of players is not simple, it's better than Classical FPS with one way to taking.

I disagree with that, I felt there was no clear direction of travel and found myself going in circles working out which doors led somewhere and which didn't. Do you remember the L4D1 commentary? They tried multiple paths but it wasn't fun, there's a good reason why HL and HL2 are so linear.

I agree that houndeyes took too much ammo, I found myself running from them looking for more ammo. Gameplay trumps realism, don't sacrifice fun to be realistic.

I'm sure all will be explained in the actual game, this is just a gameplay demo. And I thought the AI was brilliant.

Really loved this demo!
I don't think it's unfair, or hard to play, just the way I was used to it by HL! And also, there aret many places where you got to llok around more than 2 or 3 times to find your way.

Some glitches with the flashlight, and too few ammo (btw, I just wasteful). In spite of this, demo is pretty cool.

I really liked the demo, the atmosphere is really good and the enemy models and surroundings look brilliant. I do have to agree with some people though, I was always low on ammo and health and I wasn't really sure which way to go, although it didn't take long to work it out so thats not really a big problem. Overall very good demo, look forward to seeing more! :D

I really liked the demo, I got one problem, I got a dynamic vertex buffer error on the second map when fighting the last of two marines whilst my flash-light was on after the trip lasers, so I'm telling you to up the vertex buffer size lol.

Second thing is maps run slower for me than other source games, i usually get framerates of 150+, on this mod i'm getting them as low as 40fps.

And the part with the barnacle at the ladder at the start is a bad way to stop the player's motion. Make an explosion cut them off from the supplies and turn around, I was there for a while getting fall damage until I noticed the vent, I also died trying to jump onto the vent thinking I needed to hold crouch, so make it easier to jump onto?

So I have some random jottings from while I was playing the mod. Maybe you'll get some use out of it.

Intro was long and dragged out. Ridiculous amounts of camera shake. Logo looks like raven studio's.

Very jarring start to the game.

Ironsights weren't bound to any key by default, only worked on the pistol.

First houndeye fight felt unfair and difficult, especially for being the first encounter with any enemy in the game. There was no warning and I was surrounded without knowing it. I backed up from the first group into the other, eventually I ran farther back while picking up weapons that I guess were lying on the ground. Picking up new weapons during a fight was a pain because it automatically switches to the new weapon, so instead of a pistol I'm suddenly using an smg and then a shotgun.

When the flashlight was pointed at near surfaces sometimes it wouldn't render parts of it, usally only half would render when this happened.

Crosshair is very faint, almost useless with some weapons.

Why can't you break the vent at the bottom of the stairs? It's even ajar. Misleading.

First level is very difficult.

Grenades are thrown very unrealistically, they fly. Strange, takes a bit to get used to.
new particle effects are nice, but a little over the top. Explosions are huge.

An idle animation for the fists would be nice, you can't tell which weapon you have out because they are hidden when not attacking

--Part 2--

I'm glad you added a little more functionality to source's dynamic lights

The original half life sounds you are using are very low quality compared with the rest of the sounds, I'd prefer you didn't use them

Not a fan of the shallow water texture in the office, it looks like there is wind creating ripples on it

Please do not make the alien spawns a sucker punch. Spawning them in one place at a time is fine, but when the vortigaunts spawned I had no way of knowing there was one behind me and when I took cover from the other two it almost killed me. This feels very unfair.

Why is there a circuit board sitting open on the HEV charger? Makes the machine look damaged/fragile

Secure access doors are inconsistent. I could open the first one by pressing a button, the rest can't be opened by pressing the same button

I'm not a fan of the bullsquid texture. The yellow looks strange and gives it way too much contrast. The bullsquid has a lot of weightmap problems, the ragdoll looks terrible.

There's a chainlink door after the charging bullsquid that has no lock and is ajar, but can't be opened

Blocking the LOS from houndeyes doesn't stop you from taking damage from their blast

After the two zombies in the sewer, there are multiple levels of water rendering and it creates a hall of mirrors effect in one of the levels (one level before the ladder, one after)

Lighting is almost exclusively red, white and yellow. very bland

Steep learning curve, but the gameplay was fun once I was used to it.

Feels different than the HL games, but still reminiscant of HL1. I like it.

Silly ending to the demo. You die, then you're told TBC. Continue what? watching your corpse rot?

Overall it was very good and I look forward to the final release.

There were Ironsights? I thought the detail was cool, and I didn't mind that I couldn't open some doors. My biggest annoyance is enemies spawning beind me, which a game should never, ever do!

Not necessarily true. Games like Doom, Resident Evil and Dead Space are all examples of games where enemies spawn behind the player (granted there are more) and it works well with the atmosphere. Although I do agree that this mod should keep the enemies spawning in front of the player, after all it's a shooter not a survival horror.

Don't know why I pointed that out...just wanted to share my opinion.

To be fair, those are melee attackers, not laser-death-beam attackers. So you've a good chance of spotting / detecting / hearing them before they can strike, whilst a ranged attacker will be shooting you in the back before you know what's going on.

Was a fun play through. I'm actually happy with the mapping. I'd rather be able to explore some areas, rather than go a direct path just running through.

As .eXeC! was saying about it taking him 15 minutes to figure it out a door... seems a bit drastic to me. How could it take that long... anyway. Most of the doors that were able to be opened were different colors anyway.

But to each his own, keep it up.

Demo was awesome! There were a few tiny problems though such as when I blew up a scientists zombie with a grenade it was blown in half but reverted back to the body of a Half life 2 zombie. Also when a headcrab is shot off a persons head the head goes missing and is replaced with a small red bar. Other than that it was great, but it would be good if you could add a head to the zombies and fix that scientist zombie body becoming a HL2 zombie.

Great Demo, My only complaints are:
First, The houndeyes Take way too damn much ammo to put down. I think I emptied my Shotgun during the initial encounters when I expected to dispatch those little yellow bastards in one shot each.
Second, The houndeyes Shockwave is WAAAY too powerful to be the attack of the first enemies encountered. I never got past the soldiers after them without cheating Because of this.
Thirdly, Soldier Loadout was often overpowered. Almost every HECU marine I encountered was armed with a shotgun. I remember in Half-Life They seldom spawned holding a shotgun.

One thing tough on my personnal opinion, the mp5 needs a little more kick to it. it just feel stale, feels like I'm shooting peas. add a bit more recoil to the model.
