We've struggled with steampipe and things are finally looking up.

Posted by on

It's been a while, many of you have probably noticed that since steampipe most ep2 content mods have kind of gone silent or crash and burned. At first I thought I could fix it easily, I wasn't able to unfortunately and almost gave up. I was burnt out from trying to fix valves strange decision to convert everything to vpks. So I mapped but quietly, even though I knew it couldn't be played in Crypt at that moment. Then it just fell to nothing, I still couldn't get the mod to run without strange crashes with no explanation. But about a week ago I built a new skeleton mod and got it running with ep2 content WITHOUT CRASHING. I was ecstatic, it seems that if I can dissect Crypt into this new skeleton of a mod that I may be able to resume development on it.

I thought all of you guys are deserving of an update and thank you very much for those who have followed us over the years. Getting hacked, steampipe, team disintegration etc. Even though there are problems, by hell or high-water this thing will come out eventually!

I apologize that this isn't a more substantial update, but it's something at least.
Stay tuned for more updates *crosses fingers*

I know EXACTLY what you mean, i too get crazy from valves updates. They do seem to fix or add something, but at the same time they destroy something else. And, its not the first time. Valve has released a ton of these updates over the years, and each time again we have to fix there bugs ourselves or find a work around them. Again and again and again. We can only be glad that most of the engine still works because i remember as it was yesterday the two updates that made it even impossible to mod because tools simply didn't work at all anymore. For weeks, till the community did figger a fix out.

So, we modders know how much time, effort, and, not to forget frustration it gives to continu after such events.
Glad to hear you don't give up!
Personally i am struggeling with the issue that scene.images don't work anymore after the steampipe. And there is a fix for it, but that causes other issues.
But, we WILL get there, we WILL release, right?!
:)

a fellow modder,
Leon

Yep, things like this really do a number on projects, but be damned if some don't come back swinging!
