Welcome to one of the first official updates from the Lukewarm Media regarding our upcoming fantasy RPG mod for Crysis, Lightspire! Since our introduction of some of our 3D assets to the community in the last month, we have been putting together some fantastic material to show you guys a small teaser of what this mod is capable of. Today we've got a brief glimpse of how the mod is coming along, from latest artist and level renders to a small teaser trailer of one of the scenes in our mod.

Game World Synopsis
To display the type of world that the player will be progressing through in our mod, we've compiled a short game world synopsis for you to read through; this is shown below.

10,000 years on from a cataclysmic event, the world's landscape has changed. The balance of the world has shifted. Races have become extinct, and races have survived and adapted. Others have been cast away into exile. The cataclysm was not fantasy, not an apparition, it was reality, and with it, the world evolved.

The world as it is known now, is dark, grim, gloomy and filled with a sense of hopelessness and depression. Its’ races are forced to change the essence of each of their beings in order to survive an evil, created by a world showing its malevolence.

Prior to the cataclysm, dwarves, elves and other races co-existed in relative peace and harmony.

What wickedness could have emerged that it caused the elves to scatter? What wickedness could have materialized that could cause the elves to die off? What kind of corruption could enter the world that could change the physicality of the elves? The elves were so greatly altered, that they waged war with the dragons in order to absorb their magical powers and therefore enhance themselves. From this war, the elves developed and augmented their powers, following the mantra of ‘only the strong will survive’. The dragons withered and eventually came to be controlled by the elves.

The dwarves, on the other hand, had a far more ominous story to tell.

Due to the harshness of the new world, the dwarves were exiled and trapped. The dwarves’ downfall came about because of their own greed and stubbornness. With no resources, they were forced to use the very fabrics of their being in order to survive. The dwarves palatial homes were broken down in order to build new ones, their prized axes and armor were melted and reused in tools for survival. Even their own hair was used to create rope. The characteristics of the dwarven race were greatly altered, all because of a need to survive. The variation was so great, it compelled the dwarves to learn that which they hated the most. The dwarves too, became magicians.

Magazine Feature
We've been in the media this month! This article was featured in PC Action magazine and is in German; you can read the translated version beneath the image.

Feature wrote: There are some things that look too good to be true: Heidi Klum, the author of this article or Lightspire. The game from Lukewarm Media that is being developed right now as mod for Crysis places you into a postapocalyptic world. If you now think of Fallout 3 you are wrong. The setting of Lightspire is a fantasyworld. Therefore you will meet elves, dwarves, dragons and other, new races.

The developers are keeping the story under wraps but we managed to pry the info out of them that Lightspire is an action-RPG that you can not only play alone but also in a coop-mod with one friend. You choose from 4 characters. Each has his own backstory and motivations that pull him into the story.

Lukewarm media promises a combat system that is fast and full of action as well as a secret but novel magicsystem. But you also have to use your brains as you have to solve puzzles, brave labyrinths and avoid traps. As in every RPG you enhance the abilities of your hero. A skill tree allows you to learn more special abilities. You will see giant cities and fight against fierce bosses in the beautiful world.

The team cannot put down a release date yet as they are trying to find a publisher who is willing to release Lightspire as a retail game.

Fire Tech Demo
Thanks to team particle effects guru and staff member Havoksage, we've also got a demonstration of the dragon fire that will be used in the mod. The full sized HD version can be downloaded here.

Teaser Video
Last but definitely not least, we've put together a small teaser video of one of the cutscenes in the mod, showing off the kind of work we've done in the last month. You can download and watch the full sized video from our website here.

That's all for this update! Keep an eye on our website over at LightspireGame.com, and be sure to leave any feedback you have on the forums or in our forum thread here.

WOW! where did this come from :D

I am very impressed, however the obvious praise praise praise aside, I noticed a very lovely wireframe render of one of the game environments, and thought that from a design point of view, the bridges that go across the small gorge or canyon from cliff to cliff look very fragile.
I can't help the feeling like if someone ran across it, the bridge would snap.

So IMO if you wanted those bridges to look less flimsy, you would have more support on them.
I would say it'd be either best to put support beams under the bridge, or have some sortof cable system hanging onto each side of the cliff, however that would seem a bit less likely, so the support beams underneath would be more "realistic" (in game terms) so to speak.

If you wanted to do the cable support from above, you'd need to make the bridge into a different material other than stone, it would need to be made of iron or whatever it is that they would have access to, or wood.

But IMO, bridges, no matter what setting, need some sortof support, unless the gameworld was zero gravity, in which case you'd have a more modern mechanical form of support which wouldn't really be visible nor recognized.

Anyway, the mod looks fantastic already and I can really see this going places, especially since you were smart enough not to get all giddy and excited and release mod details super early.
