Hello! If this is the first time you pop by, there is already lots of content to explore with updates every Wednesday and Saturday. Today 3rd of March '18 I'm live on Twitch looking further into setting up the editor and looking at a new character (8 pm GMT/12 pm PST). Go follow and get notified as I begin the stream.

Auto-tiling:

It was a matter of time (and right now seems fine) before the auto-tile algorithm had to be written and implemented in the program. It's simple collision checking and easy to do because of the global 1:1 ratio (32x32 pixels).

(A tile changes as the cursor gets next to it, creating an organic and intuitive feel. The transition between editor and preview is smooth and feels natural)

(Word-based level design. Something they don't teach you at school!)

I had some inspiration in the Game Maker forums and some from Nocturne and Shaun Spalding's auto-tile script. And just as it should be I did the last tweak to make it fit DASH's editor. This brings a whole other feel to the creative flow, making the process more intuitive, easy and fun.

Here's a short demo of the editor and some game play to show both how the code and graphics work but also because of the awesome sound effects!

I will be showing and talking about the code and the design approach in today's stream.

PROJECT STATUS: Next level!

Stuff like the auto-tiling is what is taking DASH to a new level. When this soon is to be merged with the Hero customization menu, I think we have a good case.

As you can see the process is very organic, fun and intuitive. Of course there is a production plan and design document, but the feeling of freedom and creativity is very solid during these work days which is good because that's what you, the player, should feel when playing the game!

In today's stream I'm going to focus on the level editor and some character animation!

Watch the development LIVE on the Baby Duka Twitch channel every Wednesday (8pm GMT) and Saturday (6pm GMT)! Updates here on this blog both days as well.
