A short explanation why I havent updatet TWA in so long.

Posted by on

Some might wonder why I havent updatet TWA in sooo long even trough the screenshots show quite a bit new stuff.

Of course, there are a multitude of small reasons, but the main reason can be described in 2 simple words: Electronic Arts.

About 2 month ago, EA banned my EA account without giving any explanation or reasoning. Since I dont play online (the only times I used this account was to play CnC4 and test TWA againt some friends), it took me quite a while to notice the problem.
And I have to say, this move leaves me a bit baffled, to say the least.

However, since my account for the official CnC Forum and all CnC games are linked to this account (even my copy of CNC4 I think), this is kind of a big deal for me - after all, whats the point in modding a game if the publisher basicly told me to fuck off?

I have no idea what to do now, especially since the support told me that the account "has been banned due to reclaim - EA Services."
Yeah, I have no idea what the means either.

So, to sum things up: I might continue and update TWA some time, but dont exspect to much in that regard. Being banned without a reason really sucks the fun out of playing a game.

That's a crying shame. Nothing can be done about it? Maybe contacting them again or something?

I don't even try playing C&C3 online, I pretty much play on Hamachi exclusively.

E-mail them or register a new account and ask why you were banned.
You can E-mail the community manager, even.

This is really odd, and if this is because of modding, I will post a huge "**** YOU" over on the forums and make your case known, and leave C&C forever.

I don't like companies who think they can do this kind of ****.

EA probably thought TWA was better than C&C3/KW, thought you were making to much competistion so they banned you... those bastards!

the mod is for C&C3/KW. you need C&C3 to play it. therefore the mod can do nothing but promote the game.

classic EA, they suck the life out of everyone's fun in games and only care about their stupid profits.

they can burn in hell for ruining Westwood

Even that doesn't add up. This doesn't profit them.

Exactly, EA wouldn't hurt their profit margin unless it was a mistaken move they thought would benefit said profit margin. That being said, banning someone for making legitimate mods is in no way interpret-able as having a positive result on that game's fan base. EA is very supportive of mods compared to other companies out there, probably the biggest supporter next to Epic(assuming that the game is intended for modding). Stygs' mod doesn't profit them except those who choose to buy a C&C product because of the work he's done.

Until someone else can come up with a logical explanation, I think it's best to chalk this up to temp ban due to account security/account system update reasons. I couldn't log in to RA3 until I changed my password via the link provided in an email detailing the change.

Maybe they banned you from the forums and that banned you from the game. I had that be4, so I bitched about it till they made a forum ban only

This is likely not a strike against modders because we'd see it across the board. It doesn't seem well known, but there should be an email in your inbox linked to your account. Bioware's community service got hacked, so they sent out an account reset order. The vague wording sounds like it could be about that to me. Just check the email address you have linked to your EA login and filter your inbox for things like Bioware and EA.

So this was an odd explanation. Wouldn't you go with a new account, Stygs?

I allready have an other account (or rather, a really old account).

The problem is that all my ingame accounts and CnC4 are bound to the banned account. And I rather would like to keep these.

most likely hacked by another user, don't blame EA for what some loser might have done to your account. (though if some shmcuk at EA did this just for fun i wouldn't be suprised either)

I recall APOC giving him KW stuff and tools to mod things out of KW and C&C3. Stuff we shouldn't have had.

Perhaps that's why he got banned? Did Bibber also get banned?

Bibber wasn't banned because he never got the KW stuff. Stygs got some of the KW stuff, but technically not the KW xml files from which Asuka (aka Lauren) and the KW Mod SDK team members do have.

So that's really why Stygs got banned?

I'm sensing some foul play here on EA's side if it's because Stygs has KW modding tools. If they didn't want him to have it then they could've sent an email.

Ea sucks, period. This is just ridiculous to happen to you, regardless of if it is because of them. Which I don't doubt.
