Report article RSS Feed Complete Re-design

A short news update. You get to choose the engine, we re-design the game.

Posted by ratchet3789 on May 25th, 2014

My name is Ratchet, the lead designer and original creator of Ao Oni Source, the 3D modification for Half-Life 2.

Most of you have seen the mod go through over 3 different names and from the Source to the Unreal Engine. We ceased production mid 2013 as team members joined other groups to work on smaller projects.

It is now mid 2014 and we have come back together to bring you a completely redesigned Shadows. We are redeveloping everything based around Ao Oni. Redesigning the game in a whole new way. We will be keeping the main idea of Ao Oni but redesigning Ao Oni completely.

We just have one problem. The Engine, we would like you to vote and the most popular game engine wins. You have 4 awesome engines to choose from, each with their own special features, the voting ends on the 1st of June.

Thank you for your time and we hope that you enjoy the upcoming content.

Unity seems to be the one on the run these days and even if i really like source, it's quite limited.
Unreal is probably the easiest to work on.

Seems that most people want you to continu/start over with the source engine. Personally i did choose for the Cry engine. Continuing with the source i wouldn't do, mainly because of all the corrupted updates that valve keeps trowing at us (and we don't get the option to not use those updates).
I guess its best you just decide for yourself, because you have to work with the engine. So don't let such a important decision be made by the public. But that is just my opinion.

much success,

Yeah, we will be going with Source now due to all the user votes. From what I have tried alredy Source 2013 Multiplayer and Singleplayer do not work whatsoever. I have been working with Visual Studio for the past day trying to fix it. If we cannot fix it I will be looking at the CryEngine due to it being on Steam and the visual improvements graphically and gameplay wise.

That is rather strange because i use the Source 2013 Single player SDK for quit some time now. ANd it works like a sharm. But, your not the only one who does report this. So i am not sure why this happens.
Maybe a full clean install would do the trick?
Because i got a new computer and had to install it all again, just after the pipeline update, and from that time on Hammer works great.
