Background

Following the Second Tiberium War, Nod was driven to hiding once more. Although most Nod Splinter Cells ceased offensives on GDI and were considered not dangerous by GDI, the Black Hand under Slavik's command still continued the war against GDI, and therefore had to hide so that they didn't have to match GDI's superior firepower. Many Nod TW2 Artillery units were destroyed by GDI because of not being able to hide properly. Slavik ordered that a new Artillery would be reconstructed, having in mind that it should be stealthed. The prototype was not much different than Nod's previous Artillery, but it served its purpose nicely, as it could stealth when not deployed. After Slavik's dissapearance, and possibly assassination, most of the Black Hand under Marcion rejected the prototype Cobra, but some other Nod Splinter Cells and anti- Marcion Black Hand commanders adopted it and used it instead of Marcion's Basilisks.

With Nod being united under Kane's orders once more, General Qatar ordered the field testing of all artillery units Nod possessed at that time. The Cobra proved to be the best of them, fitting Nod's hit and run tactics and cloaking defense strategy, but despite of that, its firepower wasn't as good as she expected. She ordered then another experimental weaponry to be used on it, the newly re-gained plasma weaponry. With a pretty big number of adjustments, both on the Cobra and the plasma shell, the most powerful artillery Nod ever had was born. It was used really early in battle, even by the invasion at the Blue Zones, where it was used to destroy defenses or walls and enable the main force to pass in. It was also effectively used as a defensive unit, unpacking behind a base's walls and shooting the attackers at a really big range. Although it was really powerful, any kind of weaponry was dangerous to it, as its highly explosive Tiberium Batteries became unstable with even a pretty low number of hits, making it a top priority protection target for Nod commanders.

"Adjustments to the Cobra's structure and the plasma shell were made as ordered by General Kilian Qatar. The Cobra can now hold 110 L of Liquid Tiberium and has been upgraded with hardware responsible for converting the Tiberium into highly explosive plasma. The shell has been adjusted so that its weight can interfere with the location of the hit. The stealth generators couldn't fit in the Cobra so we used smaller ones, not giving it the abillity to stealth itself while unpaked."

--Mohamed Al Tarif, Lead Scientist of Nod's Egyptian Liquid Tiberium Research Lab--

Stars Will Fall!
The Cobra has one of the most powerful weaponry on the battlefield, being able in numbers to take out bases with ease. Its power against vehicles can't be questioned too, as it takes down heavy units fast. Its armor though makes it a pretty easy target to take out, if its stealth is of course.
