Report article RSS Feed Change of Pace - Updates Rescheduled

Yo Pokemon fans! We'll be making a few changes regarding the game's development.

Posted by Xatoku on Sep 7th, 2013

Hello.

To start, my word is extremely valuable to me. I made a goal to release updates every two weeks for PokeGen, and we've managed to meet that goal all through the summer. To go back on that word isn't something I'm particularly proud of, but I'm at a point in my life where I don't have much else of a choice.

I'm not seeking pity or anything, but there's a few things that have to be understood. For one, I'm unemployed. I've been doing some minor freelance work which has kept me going over the year, but when combined with not going to secondary school, I have to make a few key decisions at this particular point in my life.

PokeGen is probably the best hobby I've ever had, and will continue to be for the most part, but it doesn't pay the bills. Granted, I've learned quite a ton while developing the game, but I need to start thinking career wise which is something I can't do with all of my time devoted to PokeGen. Because of this, I've decided to start my own project, an original project. Something I can call my own, develop with my own creative ingenuity, and primarily, monetize from.

What this means is that my focus will be directed at developing this new game to a level I consider worthy enough to create a Kickstarter for it. I intend to work on PokeGen as a hobby from this point on, and what that means is that the updates will be released slower. If you remember back in February when we released that first demo, and then on May 31st when we released Version 2, it will largely return to that form so that I can get my life in check.

The next release for PokeGen will be onDecember 1st. It may not be the biggest release, but it will be a release none the less. The game will continue to develop, but at a slower rate, it's just something that has to be done.

If you guys are interested, once it's further along I'll start posting information about this new game and what I intend for it to be. It's an extremely early WIP at the moment, but it exists. My dream would be to work on it full-time and return to updating PokeGen every two weeks as a hobby, but we'll play it by ear. If it doesn't pan out and the Kickstarter fails, I'm not sure what I'll do, but rest assured I'll keep you all in the loop as I always have.

Anyways, I hope you guys can understand the situation and wish me luck on my future endeavors, I'll need it!

Too bad but not surprising. Would have done the ame thing if I was in his position. It's a shame that such a magnificent project is just gonna rot. Yea maybe updates every 3 months but lets be honest, the amount of content each 3 months isnt gonna keep this game alive.

english google tra.

suggestions: Melee attacks some pokemon are devastating. Examples: ratata and its "key 1", growlithe and "button 2" and "key 4". these are devastating powers and applying a lot of damage in a matter of seconds if used constantly.

in my opinion, increase the consumption of resistance, so that the fight does not end so quickly.

with ratata I can beat all in less than two seconds just by using "Key 1" constantly.

He is starting a new project that he will work on as a project he can earn money off of. Meanwhile PokeGen shifts over to be a hobby project.

I'm sorry to hear about this mate, but it is expected. Taking on a job as massive as a Pokemon 3D MMORPG is a gigantic task, which takes up a lot of time. Although it is a shame to see the updates become much slower than before. But everything happens for a reason all I can say is, goodluck with your personal project and I look forward to December 1st I am sad to see that Evolution wasn't implemented in time but they say you wait for the best things in life! As long as you can sort out your life and pursue your dream with what you want to be. I see no problem in this. Ignore the haters/disappointed people it's your decision and we are greatful that you took on the task of making a pokemon game fans dream come true! Here's to the future Xatoku!

I have to say that I could have called this one from the start. The game was simply too good. It made too much sense. I do wish you all the best, and it is unfortunate that it has to return to its' larval stages, but maybe you should consider giving primary control over to someone that can help it succeed, at the same time giving you final say and developer status. I know it isn't the IDEAL option for you, but it depends on if you want to do this, or you want it to be done. Good luck!

In my opinion, you should continue this project PokeGen.
It is no longer just a hobby, it's a masterpiece.
He can open doors for your future in a way that you can not imagine.
I am a big fan of Pokemon and you made a prototype (or simulation) worthy of excellence.
I am Brazilian and programmer too.
So I completely understand that the conditions are really tough.
But do not give up the idea of PokeGen and not treat it as a hobby.
I really hope you read this.
