Report article RSS Feed Change of Pace - Updates Rescheduled

Yo Pokemon fans! We'll be making a few changes regarding the game's development.

Posted by Xatoku on Sep 7th, 2013

Hello.

To start, my word is extremely valuable to me. I made a goal to release updates every two weeks for PokeGen, and we've managed to meet that goal all through the summer. To go back on that word isn't something I'm particularly proud of, but I'm at a point in my life where I don't have much else of a choice.

I'm not seeking pity or anything, but there's a few things that have to be understood. For one, I'm unemployed. I've been doing some minor freelance work which has kept me going over the year, but when combined with not going to secondary school, I have to make a few key decisions at this particular point in my life.

PokeGen is probably the best hobby I've ever had, and will continue to be for the most part, but it doesn't pay the bills. Granted, I've learned quite a ton while developing the game, but I need to start thinking career wise which is something I can't do with all of my time devoted to PokeGen. Because of this, I've decided to start my own project, an original project. Something I can call my own, develop with my own creative ingenuity, and primarily, monetize from.

What this means is that my focus will be directed at developing this new game to a level I consider worthy enough to create a Kickstarter for it. I intend to work on PokeGen as a hobby from this point on, and what that means is that the updates will be released slower. If you remember back in February when we released that first demo, and then on May 31st when we released Version 2, it will largely return to that form so that I can get my life in check.

The next release for PokeGen will be onDecember 1st. It may not be the biggest release, but it will be a release none the less. The game will continue to develop, but at a slower rate, it's just something that has to be done.

If you guys are interested, once it's further along I'll start posting information about this new game and what I intend for it to be. It's an extremely early WIP at the moment, but it exists. My dream would be to work on it full-time and return to updating PokeGen every two weeks as a hobby, but we'll play it by ear. If it doesn't pan out and the Kickstarter fails, I'm not sure what I'll do, but rest assured I'll keep you all in the loop as I always have.

Anyways, I hope you guys can understand the situation and wish me luck on my future endeavors, I'll need it!

Good luck to you. I for one will look forward to your new project. I know you may not have any ideas at the moment as to what it may be based on but I'm sure it will be a great game. Make it more popular than WoW!

He never said he was doing a kick starter for a new project he clearly says pokegen will continue only if kickstarter doesn't fail.

But I guess people that are bad at English understand bad English.

last time I checked this meant PokeGen will be a hobby he does on his private time while this new project is a kickstarter.

I think you're making the right choice. ;-)

hobbies can all too easily absorb your attention to the neglect of more important things.

Ideally, you should just adapt all your pokemon gen stuff (besides anything identifiable as from 'pokemon') and make a new IP based on it. you already have a lot of content, why not adapt pokegen to something original that you can profit from? it seems a bit unrealistic to work on two projects at the same time...

I was thinking a few days ago (knowing this cant make you any money) that you should make a simple game like a stick figure platformer ;P that we could all Buy..
to fund a hobby that you would like to update every two weeks O.o

but i guess so you are making an actual income the kick-starter is probably best'

hey I don't know if you'd be interested but it clearly seems like you have a lot of followers here. and we've all been waiting for a proper pokemon game for ages. now that you're trying to do something good I'm sure these people will appreciate. if the only thing is money between you and developing this game, if you start a donation campaign in this site, I'm sure you'll get what you need. I don't know if anyone else agrees with me but after all the years we spent on ridiculous pokemon games, I for myself can say that I can risk a dollar or two. anyways, I think it's worth to try. waiting for your answer and good luck on your other projects =)

Isn't that what the model thread on their forum is about. They submit the basics and he polishes them into how he views them before he uses them in game?

Last I checked he had at least most of Gen1. So it is mostly, animation and coding that is hindering them being added.

So your using the popularity form this to jump start your own game and you want money (Kickstarter) from it....... lame. Your just gonna end up dropping this eventually just like your dragon ball z game, you stopped that just because some guy spread the files but that doesn't mean you can't continue.

You used that as an excuse to stop and then start this and in turn will stop this to start something new again, seeing a pattern anywhere guys.

good luck with the new game! I would enjoy to hear about it in the future and possibly buy a copy (if its in my taste). Some things to think about before you start your project, in bullet form, because I'm hungover: -random generating levels (or stuff, replay-ability) -nicely lit, and not a pure dark game -sense of accomplishment -evenly distributed assets (running into new enemies / tools / upgrades / weapons? right to the end). anyone want to add to my list? I'm tired of thinking.

Hello Xatoku. The Game is awesome ;)

In the game you can swim, jump, run, catch, fight with the creatures, and fly. the pokemon can run a behind. That's incredible. I'm looking forward to the new beta. It would be great if you could also drive bike, and the free-running Pokemon would be with it.

if it helps you, I would also donate money :)
