Treyarch announce Black Ops 3 to get modding support & more!

Posted by on

Great news for all you Call of Duty fans, Treyarch have announced they are aiming at releasing modding and mapping tools 1st Quarter of 2016 along with support for browsing all the new modded servers that are bound to pop up! Here's what they had to say.

We’ve been listening to one of your top requests and are excited to announce that modding and mapping are coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 PC!

We’ve still got a lot of work left to do, but here’s our current plan:

  • You will be able to create Maps & Game Modes and more!
  • We will include Unranked Dedicated Server Files with the tools so you can run servers with modded content anywhere you choose.
  • We will provide an Unranked Server Browser so you can easily find and join servers with modded content.
  • Closed Alpha target date: March 2016

Please remember that this is software development, so things don’t always work out exactly as planned. Sometimes features slip or drop off altogether, sometimes they get replaced with other, more awesome features as we hit into limitations of our original plans.

So with that in-mind and eager to see what you all will create, you can now add your mods to the site and begin promoting your developments.

What will you create?

It's nice that Treyarch still cares about Modding & Custom Content.

This came pretty unexpected.
I wonder how much we'll actually be able to mod.

This opinion is probably not going to be liked here but I think its bad.
Call of Duty never was really popular on pc and with the few people being spread now even more I doubt that anything but TDM will be populated and I hate TDM in CoD.

MW with 64 or even 36 players is complete trash. So much lag and then the maps being designed for at the most 10vs10. I have yet to see a CoD that wasn't ruined by lag. Especially Black Ops 2 was pathetic when it came to lag and lag compensation and the beta didn't really convince me either.

It also begs the question what kind of dlc people will be getting. If we can make maps now then they probably wont be selling map packs. If we can make guns now they wont be selling guns and these supply drops. Wouldn't get a season pass until I know what will be in there. Maybe the dlc will be campaigns? They're supposed to be coop too.

CoD becoming popular again will come at an expense in playerbase for other pc games too I think. Insurgency for example benefited quite a lot from Ghosts being so awful to many.

We'll see

Infinity Ward makes Call Of Duty Games for the Big Paycheck & Trips to the Bahamas.

While Treyarch on the other hand make Call Of Duty Games for the love of the Game Franchise and the Community.

Just my honest opinion.

And they make money off of it too.
I want see how much you can mod and how the mapping will be. Also DLC on PC is going to be a problem. Imo 64-32 player servers should have bigger maps to make it more fun.

ROFLMAO ya Treyarch doesn't make cod for money but for the LOVE OF THE GAME.

Best joke of the year mate.

+1

You can hate IW all you want when it comes to amount of content for the money they're king. The other IW that made Titanfall however... unlike BF3 at least MW3 worked.

Oh and this modding better not open a new pandoras box of hacking. Entire MW series was and still is infested with hackers.

Whilst there is some negativity here, this is awesome news. CoD 4 was such an amazing game due to the mods so better late than never I believe in bringing this back.

You know World at War and Black Ops 1 had Mod Support right?

unfortunately this is Activision, I`ll believe, only, when I see it.

But hey, all my love to this news, anyhow. We can, now, have a proper Star Wars game made by us.

might be time to dust off my radiant skills, with cod4.

Yea... but CoD is already dead on PC... why trying to bring back the modding tools?

Plus they don't realize they are loosing munnies due to the fact they put modding stuff on PC and not on consoles... same happened for Skyrim, everybody knows the end of the story...

If only the devs weren't stupid and had released an other CoD4 like game, or even better, teh old World War ones without killstreaks and *****, CoD isn't made for PC anymore, it's just a console game, just like what halo became. It has no point to have modding support for a game that don't belong to PC anymore.

Well the game is a massive failure and bug fest on pc. Wouldn't bet on these tools ever coming.
