Post news Report RSS Black Ops to add mod support in May!

We're a little late to the party on this one, but the biggest current FPS franchise in the world is bringing back mod support!

Posted by on

Not sure how we missed this news, but thanks to this post on GameFront word is out that modding support is coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops in May. The story broke after a twitter post by one of the Treyarch developers, was officially confirmed by the community manager. According to the same developer "pcdev" the reason why these tools are coming out half a year after the games release is:

pcdev wrote: There are some purely technical issues related to engine and internal tool enhancements that do not easily fit the mod tools paradigm. We have looked at it close enough to see that it is non-trivial and we will have to pick it up again post-launch.

Call of Duty is the biggest FPS franchise in the world netting over a billion in sales, and previous versions of the game such as Call of Duty 4 have had huge modding popularity. This is excellent news because the controversial previous version of the game Modern Warfare 2, famously ignored the PC community pleas of dedicated servers and modding support. Which occurred despite the fact that many of the new features found in that game, were ideas first explored by the CoD4 modding community.

So if you plan on making a Black Ops mod, submit it to ModDB today.

He is not a retard. One stated that MW2 ran fine on his computer but BO didn't and he was swearing at BO for it. The second guy said that both games run fine on his computer just like MW2 did on the first guy's computer, hence it wasn't Black Ops' fault.

Because its a ****** game, and im not just trolling they dont give a **** anymore, all they care about is money and getting the attention of little kids who think because they can be a one man team by using the most OP combination. All they want is your money and that's it.

P.S. BF3 ftw (that part was trolling)

Yeah, Black Ops is just a military recruiting tool :)

One of the reasons is the sound.

War at World has the similar problem, and Treyarch never fix it.

A lot of hardware goes wrong with Black Ops.
My pc can play other FPS fine.

There's nothing I can do to fix my pc, but BlackOps should be patched.

The memory leak of the SP makes it unplayable.

*******. There's nothing wrong with anyone's pc. The problem is BO. Not everybody has the same hardware so not everyone has the same problems with BO. But it is not because some people have better hardware and some worse, it's because BO's ****** coding decides not to work with some hardware regardless of quality.

Black Ops: Escalation is awesome so far! A few minutes ago I came across a blog that's giving out the Escalation DLC for free! I thought it was a scam until I saw the DLC code laying in my e-mail inbox. :D

I'm not sure if there's any codes left, but if you want to give it a shot, here's the site:

Activision & Infinity Ward I say TOO LITTLE TOO LATE, Battlefield 3 is the end of you on PC, you had your shot and you screwed it by casting aside all the major requests that helped you sell Modern Warfare 1. Thanks but no thanks I have better and more important games to play.

Too complicated? That's a lie, they just say that because they don't want to invest any effort in actually making the mod tools useable.

Which is a shame because without mods, the game won't live for that long. The same could be said for many games.

The OFFICIAL word on MOD tools for BF3 is NOT AT RELEASE, expect mod tools for BF3 1-2 years after release, the quote "its too complex" means that its complex that they cant fit it into the release schedule, there are even mod tools coming out for Farcry 2 (albeit not from Ubisoft), besides it took BF2 at least 3 years before people really started needing mods for it. If DICE can give players a new and REVISITING experience on BF3 you should be good for 1-2 years, if this is the case and I truly believe it is DICE is making a smart move.

Example of DICE BF3 Hierarchy:
FOCUS ON RELEASE STABILITY AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT
FOCUS ON OFFICIAL ADDONS
FOCUS ON MOD SUPPORT

you need to fix your heircy thing,

Making Profit should be at the very top of that.

That's why Mod tools were removed, they dont want modders making new campaigns, and maps to compete with the garbage they sell periodically as DLC.

After a few months they realize their game isnt selling much anymore, after the first wave or two of first release sales. So they release some kind of crap DLC, Usually a bunch of Multiplayer maps.

The Chinatown map in MW1 Was a recreation of a map that modders made for COD2. Bet the millions of xbox sheep didn't know that

Just as the Desert Conflict mod team was hired onto the BF2 Team becuase of it's popularity, then fired after release so DC was only a pawn, a puppet of a puppet. DICE, Who itself is just a puppet being fisted by Electronic Arts.

and besides, your comment makes sense, but I think the point was that DICE made quite the arrogant statement , since they pretty much told the mod community that they're not intellectually capable of using their engine, which is horse ****. Modders are just small time game developers, many of which grow up into working for companies like DICE.

i wouldnt be so quick to jump to that conclusion. BF3's budget is going to be higher than 200million dollars, to outmatch the last MW2, and to rival the new upcoming COD. BF3 will kick the crap out of everything if its done right. But at this point Activision and Trearch are masters of exploiting a trend. they wont deviate, and they will keep fans like me for example in the future unless the completely balls it all up. (Also MW2 is optomised up the ***, much like crysis2)

You mean the marketing budget is said to have been that high - that doesn't mean the games budget is that high...

I hope EA's backstabbing and Multimillion dolar investment to beat Activision is worth it.

The only thing that sets them apart anymore is the schedule that they release games. other than that, they're both moneygrubbing pricks, that's no secret

I think Battlefield makes more unique games than Call of duty, BF Releases a game every 2-3 years, while COD Is taking the same route that Guitar hero, another Activision game took, releasing a game every year. Guitar hero eventually died because no one was buying the games, each sequel was too similar to it's predecessor, and the community got bored of it. I dont care how many million people play COD, The same will happen to it mark my words

Call of duty's main customer base are console bitches, and the Xbox and PS3 are at their limit, they can't take anything stronger than the MW2/Black Ops engine, that's why there's so many jokes about MW3 looking like a MW2 Mod, because it's the same engine.

Eventually Call of duty is going to run out of new guns to put in their game. and people will get tired of how stale and boring their games are, and the series will die.

As for Battlefield, I think Battlefield is "too complex" in the words of DICE For the mainstream shooters of the consoles. they wont like it as much because they have to run a little distance to find someone, and there arent things like killstreak rewards.

I'm getting both MW3 and BF3, I'll draw my conclucion on which was the better game after they're both out. But for the moment, I'm siding with Call of duty, which is rare for me, I've hated the Call of duty franchise ever since MW2, But I hate EA More, I forgot what ******** they were.

Nope, I'm afraid not, EA Decided to turn around and remove Mod support from BF3, I'm afraid this time, Activision are the Nazis, and EA are the Communists. they're both ********.

The PC community has already lost a lot of supporters for BF3, It wasnt even "why" they removed mod support, it was the manner in which they did it.

DICE Pretty much told the community that they're too stupid to figure out how to use their engine which is ********, games like Crysis and ****, even Call of duty are complex nowadays. They're just doing it so it doesnt threaten their sales with crap DLC they plan to release to the community of sheep

Mainstream Shooter fans will find NO redemption in becoming a Battlefield Fanboy, Battlefield is dead, just like COD, I wouldnt be surprised if MW3 Turns around and adds mod support, I hated Call of duty for years after MW2's backstab to the PC community, but I'm starting to side with it again. At least Activision and what's left of IW knows they're ********, while DICE/EA Pretend they're not

Nah, Spiderman for PS2 was quite alright, and I really liked CoD 3.

I think that BO has a quite good storyline (compared with MW2), they add more stuff (like the helicopter), a lot of awesome weapons and it was more than awesome for 360. I never played the MP because I don't have Live, but I really enjoyed the splitscreen with friends, more than the MW2 one.
