June progress up date for the Warhammer 40,000 themed Half-life 2 mod Exterminatus. News Heads up objective indicators, weapons effects and work in progress on Genestealers.

This month we've been adding navigational aides and polishing up aspects of Exterminatus that have been on the sidelines and started work on content for the next version. During testing it became evident that the players were having difficulty keeping up with which team held which objective, to solve this we have added a HUD display showing the objectives in the 3D view as the icons of the team that holds them. Typheron has been continuing his mapping work on "dig site", adjusting to the newly visible objectives.

We've also been working on the muzzle flashes of the bolt weapons, to bring them mire in-line with GW art style (much bigger than regular HL2 muzzle flashes). Mindblighter, who made the eerie Zoanthrope model for version 1, has been modelling, sculpting and texturing a Genestealer to add to the swarm of creatures in our Tyranid hoard. It's too late in the development of version 1 to start adding another class, but we plan to see the stealer join the swarm soon after, so here is a sneak peek at what's coming...

With the few issues remaining and shortage of maps, it looks like were still a few months away from anything we'd care to share publicly, but the end is in sight.

Make them yourself, we released a MDK (map dev kit) so put your money where your mouth is and show us your skillz.

God knows i HATE mapping and suck at it.

In my world, Yes.

Understand, we are a team of 5 who were all moddlers or coders. Ive moddled one thing for this mod, a tank trap and then had to learn advanced animation & mapping in hammer, both things i do not enjoy doing.

But learn them i did in order to progress this mod.

So ill only be taking critisicm over things ive done for this mod from people who have tried something similar.

To take a totally silly example, i dont go giving critisicm to nuclear technicians working in power plants because i know nothing of what they do.

I KNOW the map aint pritty, im KNOW i am not skilled at this but ive spent the last 2 years of development trying to find someone who is and is willing to aid us.

I found no-one. We do the best we can.

Well everything looks awansome and new good mod will be runing in moddb only isue i see is gun beam looks abit...you know but i bet that will be improved so....looks great keep the good job and you know where keep whiners...deep in 1 spot:P

The EX team reads a lot of GW publications for reference and inspiration, rule books, codicies, White Dwarf not forgetting forgeworld.

All the artwork in EX, on our moddb profile and on our website was produced by the team (GWs terms of use does not allow us to use any of their artwork for modding).
