Here's some quick and dirty footage showing some cool ideas for an alien vision mode. This would allow the aliens to excel in the dark after they cut the power. Some of these could be used for scanner sweep effects too.

It's awesome that we can be editing and tweaking these effects as the game is running! There have to be some art styles for a new game in here somewhere.

GG Spark engine!

It's nice and all, but how about fixing the unplayable server-side lag? Rather than constantly working on how to make the game look prettier...

Which again, doesn't help the lag.

That's not exactly fun to watch being coded in though, is it?

You're right.

But it WOULD be fun if the game wasn't unplayable for a few...I don't know...years?

But then again, thumb down a guy stating an obvious flaw and asking the developers to maybe look into it.

So yeah, sorry, I am asking a bit to much after giving these guys my money.

You do realize that one of them is a game engine programmer right? As in he can't work on that because that isn't his expertise.

And your point is?

The engine used in this game is made by Unknown Worlds...

If it's a sonar-like thing, maybe the trade off could be that the creature makes more noise while it's active or something, making it easier to find?

It could make like a short, loud, screech...not screech...hmm...sonar-like animal sound.

If that makes any sense.

It would be cool walking around and hearing that around you as a marine. Would add to the atmosphere.

that thing from 5:50 on could be used to highlight enemys and vent entrys to make it easy to see in dark areas, without a nv.

What if its sonar, and to use it the alien lets out a very high-pitched(but audible to humans) screech? Temporarily granting veiw of the area at the cost of being heard by everyone nearby, and slow the attack (bite/claw/whatever) speed so its like the aliens brain is using alot of its power to process the waves? Or slow down the alien a bit as if it can't use the sonar if its moving too fast since it won't hear it precisely?

I like how your coder is so awesome, after camera-man says to keep the language clean... No one does.

The greatness of a coder is measured in expletives uttered in amazement at his work. Providing, of course, they're not about bugs.

And don't take me wrong, I'm not being some anti-cursing person, I'm laughing my head off, because it's that awesome.

Epic. Pure epic. Usually, I'd say to keep it making sense, but in this case, even if you don't make up a back-story for this, it doesn't matter.

More and more, I can't wait till I start coding my own engine. I'll start in around 3 years. By then, I'll have enough experience (Which will be 4 years of C++ experienced, and around 6-7 years of general coding. I learn pretty quickly, so, hopefully, I can start). Great job inspiring me!
