this has been some research i have done on butera, not very in-depth as of yet, but some points of importance

Posted by on

ok, i have done some research on butera, however, it is proving to be a stubborn town to find information on, i don't think it was too well documented, however, i did see in one piece of writing that it was one ranger company that captured butera, whether we will do rangers backed up by the 2nd, i don't know, however, i did see that butera was a fortress town, so maybe doing some research on a typical layout of a fortress town will give some information.

yea, i had some trouble finding information on Butera, i found out that its a Town which is interlinked with roads leading around to it, with only 1 road into the town itself, however the map lists are a WiP, i've already changed the Canadian 4th Armored Division's Maplist already... i am considering replacing the battles which are hard to find information on and adding in missions which have more detail, such as the Battle for Hill 30, which will have the 101st Airborne being reinforced by the 2nd Armored

hmmmm

if you can make a smooth, low gradient hill for me to put a town on, surronded by a couple moutains in places, not too high though, place farmland on the outside areas, and i might be able to work on the town itself

i have asked around at my wargaming club and my friend has helpfully found out that butera was located on heights, and it was ONE, just one company of fifty rangers that took the town during night, they also faced enemy armour.

maybe this one is going to be hard to do

yea, i've asked around and no one has experience with Hills... i have little but i can only do small hills...

i think its best if we remove this map for the time being and add in Battle for Hill 30 - this one consists of foxholes and whatnot at the edge of a treeline which overlooks a small hill... the battle will start after the Tanks of the 17th SS Panzer Division drives towards the 101st Airborne Positions, and Shermans from 2nd Armored roll in to save the day, the 1st objective will be to destroy the tanks before they kill round about 30 101st Airborne soldiers, the next objective is to move forward and clear out strongpoints where the 17th SS has regrouped, before reaching a farmyard, the final objective is to then clear out the farm area

"The 2nd Battalion of the 502nd PIR took up positions to the right of the 506th, but by 1:00 p.m. they too had suffered many casualties, and the German attack was on the edge of breaking through their defenses.
At this critical point, sixty tanks from Combat Command A of the 2nd Armored Division and accompanied by infantry of the 29th Division, counterattacked southwest from Carentan at 4:30 p.m. inflicting severe casualties on the Germans and forcing them to withdraw."

after finding a Link, which has all the AARs of the 2nd Armored Division from 1943 to 45 i was able to find out that 2nd Armored encountered light resistance in Sicily, only the battle around Castelvetrano, which was assisted by the 82nd Airborne and 2 Battalions of Rangers... "July 22nd, at 0600H the lead elements of the division moved out to attack the axis positions shown at sketch #6 and #9 (cant find images) these positions consisted of cleverly concealed A-T Positions and Machine guns backed up by furnished Italians not until they were surrounded by the Infantry and shells from the cannons and/or tanks that they surrendered these actions were completed by the lead elements from 82nd Recon"
