As news of our coversion to the SAGE (C&C3) engine started to sread through the community, and outrage and disgust was plainly felt throughout, we thought to ourselves we'd made a mistake.
Myself and the senior team at 1985 sat down and disgussed the possibilty of swallowing our pride and returning to the HL2 engine.
So it is with great enthusiasm, that i must announce our return to the source engine, by releasing shots of the L1a1 ingame, and promising you -the community- the release of a short mod-inspired promotional video within the next month. We hope to be bringing our first beta within the next quarter. The team has grown been scaled down, and we have gotten rid of the 'dead' wood. Fortunately this means there are places on the team, specifically for texture artists, animators and coders, but also mappers and modellers. If you are interested then please contact me.
Please dont use this opportunity to post aggressive, or offensive messages on our message board.
Thank you, and we hope to see you soon with more media.
Looks like I'll start watching the mod again.
Why does it have to be HL2? There are a number of engines, which either have more power and are a lot more user-friendly than HL2. Perhaps it will all boil down to just two alternatives - or just to Unreal, but still each of those engines will give you slight advantages over using HL2's Source Engine.
because everyone who has hl2 got excited about it. i did aswell. and more people have hl2 than c&c . i admit i have it but my comp cant run it too well...so ts basicly better for everyone
Well if I was making a mod I'd choose HL2 as well. Why? Because you reach a hell of a lot people, many times more than on any other engine. E.G.- If you ask me which mods do I consider got the biggest attention in recent time from community - almost all will be source (Hidden, Insurgency, Minerva, Fortress Forever, Fistful of Frags, Gmod, PVKII, Eternal Silence, Zombie Panic, Dystopia.... I could go on and on). On the other hand the only big release on other (FPS) engines in recent times would be Killing Floor (excellent mod btw) -> though I doubt it has as much players as say Insurgency or some other big source mod. If you make a mod, you want as much ppl as possible to enjoy it and right now I see Source as a platform for PC FPS mods. Like it or not...
More people being excited about a mod don't help getting it finished. I actually believe the fewer people are exited about your project, the better your chances of making a quick release and the less stress you'll have with a community hyping a couple of nice models.
So my philosophy is to be very strict about making early public releases in order to avoid disappointing the community and future fans of our project. You got to make some advertisement, of course, but seeing Half-Life 2 as the one game with most unreleased mods, makes one think about, if it's worth or not working with Source. So unless you have a brilliant coder, who's got it all figured out already, I would seriously think about porting this mod to a proper engine.
but source is way easyer to work with. why would it have its own dev kit thrown in with most of its games? its meant for modding. end of
So is this an RTS or FPS or what?
FPS
SinKing is th only engine you consider to be a real one an "unreal one"?
hl2 is a good solid engine. its created some of the best games of all time and it does get the crowds. mainly because more people buy the retail games and therefor have access to it.
modders should not use the engine that is neccesarily the best one out. they should use an engine that suits their purpose and audience. so i think its a good choice to return. looking good guys
Personally I would have enjoyed this mod on the SAGE engine, you really should focus on what engine will provide you with the overall best experience though (not to say the SAGE engine is best for this). It'd be better to have a small fanbase that thought the experience was phenomenal, than to have a large fanbase who thought it sucked because the engine ruined the whole experience.
I'll definitely keep watching. Keep up the good work, I can't wait for release.

I would have personally preferred the SAGE engine. My computer is unable to run Half-Life 2. So that leaves me out.
Well, hope it turns out well.
How is it able to run C&C3 but not HL2? Is that even logically possible?
go to the doom 3 engine instead. Watch the valve fanboy's explode in rage like a tempest in the sea. :)
i should be an honorary member of the team. Being the only person who was ever on the forums
Will the mod be set on the moon tomorrow? ;)
I'm not watching the mod, but from the whim-like changing of direction and then back, it seems like you're kinda losing focus on what you're doing. If you don't have the people or the purpose to make a HL2 mod, then make a C&C3 one instead. I just hope you make an awesome mod either way.
Good luck!
