The Zone of Alienation mod is an adaptation of the renowned AMK mod. It is built on top of a specialized variant of AMK that uses a magazine system. From this premise, it has expanded to aim to include the following:

  • Realistic ballistics.
  • An expanded arsenal of weapons.
  • Improved AI.
  • An expanded and embellished storyline, from the original Shadow of Chernobyl, while preserving the original core plot.
  • New levels.
  • New characters.
  • New quests.
  • An artifact detection system, and new artifacts, with old artifacts having altered properties
  • A realistic implementation of night vision, weight, sleep, and possibly weather even affecting the actor.
  • Many visual improvements over the standard SoC, and AMK.
  • Vastly increased difficulty.
  • Optional freeplay with the ability to traverse every level of the game, and join any faction.

Readme - Changelog - Credits

It's been quite some time since the last update, so FatalFunnel and I are happy to bring you a new and improved full version of ZoA, and would like to thank you all for your patience throughout the process. The goal of ZoA 1.07.2 has been primarily to polish the rougher aspects of the mod; to this end many bugs have been fixed, text improved, and scripts optimized. However, there are plenty of new features and balance changes as well. For a full list of what's new, click the Changelog link above.

I would also like to take this opportunity to announce that I have decided to discontinue my contributions to the mod. It's been an entertaining and informative experience, but I feel that it's time to move on to other things. Big thanks to FF for allowing me onto the project, and to all the ZoA fans for supporting us.

Good hunting, stalkers.

Note: the old 1.07 base and Patch 13 downloads will be removed in a week, so if for whatever reason you want those, get 'em now.

Hi guys.
I downloaded this mod yesterday and i like it but i can't figure out how to unload a magazine.
The readme says: "to load/unload a magazine, equip it to your belt, close the inventory, then press the key for your binoculars (generally '5'). Press 'r' to begin loading rounds, or right click to completely empty the magazine. When unloading switch to a different weapon when you hear the sound of bullets striking the ground, unless you want to begin reloading immediately."
But when i do that, i hear something hit the ground and switch to a different weapon the magazine is gone and i don't have the extra bullets in my inventory.
Please help.

I just reached Agroprom Underground and I just keep crashing (yes, I applied the fix). Also, I kept hearing Sidorovich's voice when I loaded a save for a while. Another problem is that the weight of stuff in the inventory is constantly getting broken (mostly when I'm loading bullets onto a mag, but also when I load a save sometimes).

I really wanna play this. Is there a patch coming soon?

Hi. I downloaded the 1.07.2 version of the mod, installed it according to instructions, and I immediately encountered two rather deal-breaking bugs. One of them was the same as another person a few comments below mine had. I managed to fix that problem by deleting mipmaps, as instructed by ReznorMS. However, one bug still stands, and this bug can be described as a functional yet ugly/weird looking UI. Here are links to a few screenshots:
The inventory(looks like a broken vanilla version)-
Dialogue(reading text is often difficult)-
PDA(not that bad, but it's still not right)-
Does anyone know a possible cause, or better yet, fix for this problem? Please do tell me, because I would definately love to play this mod as it looks very promising.
P.S. I applied the Non-Widescreen fix before deleting mipmaps. The fix did nothing, as is evident. Also, I'm using the US retail vesion of the game, patched to 1.0006, obviously.

You'll just have to play in a widescreen resolution. Otherwise, it just won't work.

Yes, I figured that would be the only way. Kinda sucks being able to see only two thirds of my screen(my monitor has the long forgotten 5:4 aspect ratio) but at least it works properly. Playing is still a frustrating experience because for some reason the game crashes when trying to save after playing for a while. Picking up rucksack stashes also crashes the game, always. Dunno, maybe its because I have a 32-bit system and a fairly low-end computer overall...
