Is a safe fire mode hardcoded? Would be a nice realistic touch, and for me, would prevent some accidental discharges while I'm walking around.

We couldn't add that without engine modifications. I guess perhaps you could hack something together with just setting the weapon to have no bullets in it but that's a pretty inelegant solution.

By the looks of it, the effort might be a tad excessive... plus, I'm not sure that kind of safety is really safe in the Zone ! =P

Actually, I spoke too soon! I don't think this is intentional, but you can in fact have a fire mode that shoots 0 bullets, which is effectively a safety. I guess you can ask FF how he feels about that, I don't really have an opinion for or against it.

If it can be done without wasting ammunition then sure, though I worry about your sanity to put you through any more of this.

It's not a script solution, you just add "0" to the list of fire modes. Works like a charm.

Odd that a state like that even works in vanilla, although it is just an integer value, but the fact that weapons behave that way leads me to suspect that it was something in the game that GSC neglected to use.

Not really that surprising. Fire mode just means "after how many shots should it stop firing". 1 is semi, 2+ is burst (you can go as high as you want, 10-burst works fine), and -1 is automatic because the shot counter never reaches the limit. -2, -3 etc work the same.
It makes sense from a general implementation standpoint. To me, anyways.

I added it to my fire modes earlier.

I'm going to be laughing when people start up the game and go WHY DOESN'T MY GUN SHOOT?

Yeah you should probably not make that the default.

It wasn't, it was the third setting, yet it defaulted to that, and it often went to that between -1 and 1 when switching.

I'll wait until I'm done with most of my changes before adding it to most weapons, some guns, like the TT33, don't have a safety.

Goes out to troll muties and get some rewards, when suddenly:

"Oh, crap ! OH, CRAP ! That boar is getting close ! I swear I'll clean you over dinner if you just goddamn fire this once ! ...FUUUUUU !!"

Not sure yet, but I kinda like the idea for camps and other (mostly) friendly places!

"Safety ON, now lets fill those mags for tomorrow's incursion... Hmm, I like this place already. The fire is warm and the vodka actualy doesnt taste like boar urine!"

I guess it has both pros and cons... Surely adds to the immersion, while it might be of rare use to most. Maybe as an optional feature if it doesnt take much time away from other work!

On the plus side, the game will now tell you when you switch fire modes so you don't lose track of which you're on.
On the minus side, my sanity may have been permanently damaged.
