ZPS - Horde
Oct 17, 2009 Music 3 commentsNew Zombie Panic: Source ambient track "Horde" - By KillahMo
The basic idea of the Zombie Panic is to create solid game play that is based on a classic zombie outbreak scenario. The living dead are coming for the last remaining humans, and these survivors must fight them off and live through the day.
Everyone joins a server, in the beginning you can either choose to join the human team or you can volunteer to be the first zombie. If no one volunteers the game will pick one human randomly and the game begins. The starter zombie's goal is to, of course kill the humans while the human goal is to stay alive as long as possible, complete objectives, or even wipe out all the zombies. The catch is that when a human is slayed he will simply join the ranks of the undead, now ready to finish off his old living teammates. The humans can't tell by the player list who’s alive and who’s not, eventually there will only be one survivor still standing if all goes wrong, facing all the zombies which use to be allies, with his back to a wall. The zombies only have a certain number of reinforcements (lives), when a zombie is killed they lose 1 life from the counter. However, when a human is killed they gain 1 life. If the zombies only have 1 respawn left the humans can win the round by killing off the remaining undead left on the map.
We want the mod to feel creepy and give you a sense of desperation, and yet not take itself so seriously that you can't laugh at the way you got slayed. Overall fun and playability is the priority, where is realism and horror while important are just a bonus when possible. We want a mod that you can easily play with any number of people, even with small numbers or uneven numbers. Plus, there's a certain sense of satisfaction in tearing apart those heartless survivors who failed to protect you while you were alive, limb from limb.

During this past week we've had a few announcements that we are happy to share with you today! We've been quite busy working on getting Contagion up to par and while we've shared a few screenshots here and there we haven't talked about much else behind the scenes.
Many have been wondering when Contagion will be available on steam and while the game isn't on sale yet we are happy to announce you will be able to see Contagion coming to you this Fall! With our Contagion Steam Shop setup we also have our Official Steam Group which you can follow for all the latest updates and news about Contagion! This also includes our official Steam community Hub linked to the group.
Although we won't be officially attending PAX again this year as the lint in our pockets wasn't convincing enough, we have entered Contagion in the PAX 10 competition. Which is a competition for indies to win a chance to showcase their game at this years PAX Prime. So that means, should we win, we will receive a kiosk to demo the game. We have our fingers crossed!
Now in other Monochrome news, the Zombie Panic: Source Steam page will be getting a facelift soon as well as we transition to Steam's new content management system, "SteamPipe." This new system will allow us to roll out updates easier and include some performance benefits to players.
Benefits include:
More info soon as we convert over to the new system.
If you've missed them we've posted a few new screenshots the past couple weeks from one of Contagion's maps "Aurora". There will be plenty more to come! Here's a small recap:

It can take up to a few hours for tweets to begin appearing.
When ever I try to join a game it says "invalid steam ID" or "server is using diffrent class"
Going to ever let us play this without having to install the dedicated sever, which is wasted space for those of us that don't want to host them?
Everytime I go to download this, says 1600MB. However, once I click it, it starts downloading both the game, and the dedicated server, quickly taking up more space.
IF I stop the Dedicated Server download, the ZP:S one stops as well...if I stop & delete the Dedicated Server, I seemingly delete ZP:S as well.
If I let both download to completion, then delete the dedicated server, it deletes ZP:S as well.
This is the only Steamworks mod doing this to me and it's frustrating.
I realize this is probably a fault on Valves end....but still frustrating as all heck...wasted bandwidth, wasted HDD space.
Is it due to the .gcf format?
Cause like I said, Age of Chivalry doesn't suffer from a problem like this...
Anyone hear anything on the next patch?
@Dakcenturi the team just released a small patch to fix some bugs and exploits:
=====2.2.1 (02-27-2012) =====
+ Fixed Infected Bug.
+ Fixed some cases of BunnyHop.
+ Fixed joingame exploit.
+ Added filter support for game_zone_player
Oh, moving onto Source 2?
Congrats. It's a really nice upgrade. Source continues to look better and better, but the hardware requirements stay the same. Feels good.
To clarify the information that's been posted in the zombie panic news section, Tatsur0 and his Contagion team are the ones who are talking to Valve about that
ZPS on the other hand, we're staying on Source SDK Base 2007 so don't get your hopes up on a drastic engine change lol
I just tried to access the www.zombiepanic.org web site and it tells me "This site has been suspended"
I also tried to access the forums via my bookmark and I got:-

You don't have permission to access /forums/index.php on this server.
So whats this all about?
I think they are changing server hosts.

Please add support for steam version installer, if possible:)
