After a much better release than I anticipated, I have returned with fixes! Perhaps the biggest issue for most people who played the mod was that the zombies became passive. That was the worst issue the mod had, and it was fixed in a grand total of ten seconds; so in terms of release problems, I don't think it could have gone better. I also copied the various bug lists that people provided me and worked through them as best I could, so quite a few problems the mod had are gone now.
Also, to see the mod have an 8.9 rating is incredible. To be quite honest I wasn't sure how the project would be received with so little actual gameplay. But it seems my faith in the community wasn't misplaced as everyone seemed to understand that this project, despite being a year old, is still in its infancy. I have some interesting features I'm working on right now for the next update, as well as a full tutorial on how to set up Hammer for Zombie Colony.
Just a quick note: this is not the full mod. You simply need to extract this over your current install, and let it overwrite the files it wants to. If you don't have the mod yet, download the full release, then install this over it. You do not need to restart steam for the update, simply overwriting the files is enough.

The first official alpha build of Zombie Colony. To install, simply extract it into the SourceMods folder of your Steam directory. It requires Half Life...

its a great mod but...
I would like to make some of my own maps because me and my friends are getting bored of just the one.
I am fairly experienced with source sdk and milkshapes.
after all I am a mod developer myself.
but I need to know exactly how I would do that.
any ideas?
Same problem for me I don't even get an error message. It simply nothing happens when I try to launch it.
I installed it into sourcemods and got Hl2 DM plus Ep2 installed in steam.
Seems to me you wrote a bad config or didn't link it to the needed games properly I don't know.
Update: I experimented a bit and so I managed to get into the main menu before it crashed on me by moving the modfolder into the ep2 main folder and launching ep2 per -game zombcol command. At least that way I could launch it and see the main menu. Naturally it wont work like that.
So definitely a config issue here. Your gameinfo.txt also looked fishy compared to other hl2 ep2 gameinfo.txt mod files. But I'm not sure if that plays an important role at all I'm to unexperienced with hl2 modding.
The config files are not the problem. Have you tried to run HL2:DM and Episode 2 before running Zombie Colony? Certain necessary files aren't extracted until the games are run.
If I wrote the config files incorrectly it wouldn't work on anyone's machine.
Nice. You're right I started Ep2 and DM played around in some maps and now your mod is working. You should add that information into your description. I reinstalled Steam couple of weeks ago when my new computer arrived so I didn't had any of the needed files I get by playing the games.
Testing your mod now.
Which maps/levels did you load up on Ep2 and DM? I can't seem to launch the game, and I've been loading levels and maps with zero success.
No specific levels are necessary. What errors are you getting?
Do you have HL2: Deathmatch and HL2: Episode 2 installed?
No I did not, I do not have HL2:episode 2
I did searched for the requirements on the modb page.. and I did not find it. So make it a bit clearer which versions of HL2 you got to have installed. :)
At the very top, I made sure to write "*Note: Zombie Colony requires Half Life 2: Deathmatch and the content from Half Life 2: Episode 2."
Where were you looking? I want to make it as clear as possible, so if you missed it that means other people could be as well.
