So, we are continuing with showing the Miid ro'ik variants today. While doing this, I thought now might be a nice time to share a little bit of a developer's diary, to show how our team is working together to bring you these models.

How our team works:

A concept for a ship is first suggested. I am provided with the idea, and develop it further while preparing blueprints for the model maker. The team provides feedback and discusses the usability of the model, and agrees to it's inclusion. Shimrra determines if the proposed concept is functional. He then prepares plans for coding and gives feedback on what can/cannot be done. The blueprints are then given to the model maker, who works back and forth with me, creating the model while I provide aesthetic direction.

For the Miid ro'ik, I proposed the idea first to Shimrra who then determined that the coding was possible. Seregruth then began creating the models. We have been working on the Miid ro'iks probably for a few weeks now. Seregruth has put many hours into his work, preparing updates and working closely with me to make sure that the ship is realistic looking from all angles, while ensuring low poly count. The finished model is then delivered to me where I create the UV and texture. Once the texture is finished, there is back and forth collaboration to adjust the UV to be perfect. For these models, help was provided by Gereoenimo and Seregruth. The finished model and texture then has a shadow developed and is given to Shimrra for coding/rigging.

All throughout the process, various screenshots are taken and shared with our core team members who provide feedback and suggestions to ensure that the finished product is as good as possible. A true team effort.

Many thanks to Seregruth for his timeless efforts and tweaks to make these vong ships come to life :)

Yeah, I agree with SigmaGuy, its a beautiful ship. I also like how you explained the collaboration process. You're very organized, so its no wonder you can create such amazing work. Keep it up!

Every member of our team is vital to our success, even if that member only contributes a "yeah that looks good".

Thank you for the compliments, they keep our moral high and keep us busy making more ;)

We had a similar idea before, I'd just suggest being careful about where the bones for point defense are on it, and having a really low range or it starts looking weird.

you´re very right! it needs more than just one bone, but with more it looks quite fine...

Well, not just number but placement; certainly you need more than one, but the closer to the hardpoints they are, the better it works, since the effect tends to work better at close range, and the projectiles are going to be coming at those regions anyways.

Description

The Miid ro'ik will have the ability to be upgraded. There will be 3 upgrade versions to choose from. The first variation we wish to present is the Dovin Basal variant "shieldship". This version of the cruiser retains all the firepower from the original version, along with it's fighters, but the Miid roik grows and transforms it's hull to create extra dovin basal clusters. The Miid roik recycles some of it's black armor to be used for the resources needed to generate and grown the dovin basals, but the reduced armor is compensated by the extra defense of the dovin basals.

The "shieldship" version features dovin basals clusters grown all over its hull. This gives allows for the ship to act as a point defense ship, protecting other nearby vessels by absorbing weapon incoming weapon fire. The ship also features 2 very large grown dovin basals that provide the ship with enough power for tractor beam capabilities.
