Battlefront 2 footage; min 5:26 as Y-Wing flys by.

Just for those who wish to see where the idea comes from.

(Sigh) Every time I see Battlefront, keep on hoping for a 3rd one, as I know most of us are :(

I think its a little bit weird to see any turrets from outside.Without turrets would be nice.Personally, I like the MC80 Liberty model in Phoenix Rising mod, which is quite similar to yours...

We thought about this, but since all ships will feature turrets, the MC80 would look strange/unfinished if had none when compared to all other ships.

Glorious model, probably the best version of the MC80 I've ever seen, I do think the turrets look a little bit long, they do tend to stand out, not sure if that is intended or not?

It is intentional. The MC80 class was a retrofit line. They took basically cruise ships and added armor and weapons. One can relate this to the American aircraft carriers of WW2 (Yorktown, Saratoga, Lexington: all had misplaced turrets from battleships just added to them). This was the idea I wanted to convey for older Mon Calamarian ships. Newer mon cal class ships will have weapons integrated more seamlessly into the ships's hulls.

The turrets also need to be present in some form or another for mod consistency. If you have a battle with all the ships having moving turrets, and then a big ship appears that is lacking them it just looks like something is missing.

This is a new interpretation to the design, much like how fractal sponge introduced turrets to the star destroyers.

I was just on about the length of the turret not the inclusion of them, but you have answered the query below anyway :)

Weapon barrel length is consistent with Corellian Punisher and Kuat Procurator for long range beam laser weapons.

The heavy beam lasers can also be considered an upgrade in armament from the days of battling the empire.

Beautiful model, really well done. Although I'm wondering, how strong actually the MC80's really are compared to for example an ISD II. Because this warship has a civilian origin, I guess hull durability would be smaller, compensated by strong shields, but can/could/should these ships have a chance taking an ISD II 1 on 1? I suppose the ship itself is weaker, but its fighter complement is much better than the standard Imperial one so that could even up the chances...

YES! I like the new look, it looks much more interesting than vanilla Mon Cal cruisers. I especially enjoy they're getting some carrier capability now, since the New Republic has such awesome fighters.

Description

Our first finished Mon Calamarian ship.

This is a new take on this classic vessel, please do not be alarmed:

Fitting in with our mod and our style of realism, antenna array and heavy beam laser turrets have been added to the MC80. The MC80 is a heavily armored ship, with extra strong shields. It is essentially the "punching bag" of the Mon Calamarian Fleet. The heavy beam lasers provide long range armor piercing power, while any ship that ventures too close will be pummeled by the deadly array of ion cannons and turbo lasers housed within the many gun blisters covering the ship. Internally housed weapons systems allow for extra protection of the weapons, allowing the Liberty to take a beating and keep fighting back.

Notable features of the ship are the under wing protected hangers, which will have extra strength to ensure mid-battle repairs of fighters while battles wage on.

Note: the concept of side mounted beam lasers comes from the game Battlefront 2.
