Whilst reading through the FAQ, keep in mind that the mod is work in progress. Every provided answer is subject to change and represents the development status of the mod when the FAQ had last been updated. See the changelog for further details. This list will be updated with additional questions or corrections as seen fit. Feel free to ask further questions in the comment section down below or the mod's main comment section.

  1. When will the mod be released?
A date has yet to be announced.
If you want to help us speeding things up a little, you’re always welcome to join the team and give us a helping hand. (See question 3)

  2. When can we sign up for a (Closed) Beta?
Not at all. We have a large team and an even bigger number of associates and thus are not in need of any additional testers.

  3. I want to help! Where can I sign up?
Contact one of the team members (preferably Burntstrobe) via pm. Tell us what you can do or want to help with and we'll figure out the details.

  4. What performance can we expect?
The mod aims to provide high-end visuals on a somewhat dated engine we push to its limits, thus a mid- to high-end rig is required to enjoy full details and good performance.
That being said if you turn down details even low-end systems should be able to run it, but it might lag (quite badly) during certain game phases.
If you have a rig that can run current games at medium to high details, you should be on the safe side.

  5. What playable factions are going to be included?
There will be three playable factions: The Galactic Alliance, the Yuuzhan Vong and the Hutt Empire.

  6. But what about the Empire? I love the Empire!
During the time the mod is set the Galactic Empire/Imperial Remnant was only a shadow of its former self. It will be featured in the mod only as a minor, not-playable faction.
    Moddb.com

  7. But Imperial Star Destroyers?
The mod features a diplomacy system which allows you to side with minor factions and use some of their ships and – depending on your diplomatic standing – even use their technology and build their units.
    Moddb.com

  8. What planets are going to be in the mod?
    Moddb.com

  9. Will this mod feature a campaign?
Yes and no. It will not have a dedicated campaign for one faction as seen in the vanilla game, but the Galactic Conquest mode will feature the story of the Vong War, represented as missions and events which unfold as you play. Those stories and missions will resemble the official timeline events of the Vong War, and -- apart from key events -- feature unique elements for each faction.

  10. Do I have to play the story?
No. But it will make your life easier, as certain technologies, units or allies can only be unlocked via story events.

  11. Will the story follow the books to the letter, or will you include what-if-scenarios?
In short: Both. We have to create our own story events for Hutts and Yuuzhan Vong anyways.
In more detail: There are certain events that will and for the sake of the story ark have to happen, but there will be alternate outcomes based on player decision as well. Prepare to face consequences for your actions, both immediate as well as in long term.

  12. And what about Skirmish? Will there be Skirmish support?
Skirmish will be playable. How far skirmish mode will be supported depends on several factors, most importantly us being focused on the galactic conquest, time, and technical issues regarding new mechanics and the game's skirmish mode.

I really hope it will be similar to AotR. I really enjoyed that mod, especially the realism was pretty amazing.

The only thing it needed was more refined story events. No general manual of how to get what or what triggers what was quite annoying after a while. 9/10 Mod, fantastic for everything else aside from what I stated.

How about we create something unique instead?

Don't get me wrong, I love AotR and about 80% of the time I've played EaW was with this mod active (not counting testing features for YVaW, that number is exorbitant).
But we already have AotR which is still being worked on... We don't need a second AotR, every attempt creating a similar mod will fail.

Instead you'll get Yuuzhan Vong at War. Sounds like a deal?

So I'm guessing when you mean the campaign you won't have to play as the Vong? You can play from the Hutt, GA, or Vong point of view?

Wait wait wait wait..... let me get this straight: The HUTTS are playable, but the Imperial Remnant isn't? The Empire joining the war was the turning point, while the Hutts just got trampled.

Yes. The Hutt Empire is playable. The Imperial Remnant is not.
This has been announced quite a while ago.
And you mentioned the critical part to this decision yourself. The Remnant joined the war effort of the forming Galactic Alliance. After they got trampled on their own and had -- up to this point -- done nothing.

Except make Ithor a Vong betrayal instead of a Republic route. And let's just forget what the galaxy looked like at the end of the war, shall we?

I don't think you read the books...

Hutts defended their empire, alone, for 2 years, and were hard targeted after the Vong realized they were being double-played by the hutts.

The imperial remnant, which was weak, struggling for survival under fierce sanctions by the NR and was suffering from shortage of supplies due to over population of the few worlds they had left, was nearly wiped out by the Vong until the NR stepped in to save them.

Bastion was lost
Muunilinst was destroyed
Mygeeto was ruined
Borosk was a loss for the empire
Garqi was lost
Generis was lost
Yaga minor was all the empire had left

The empire was essentially destroyed

And yet the Empire was the only faction that was larger at the end of the war than at the beginning.

And by "New Republic" do you mean "A handful of Jedi on an unsanctioned mission who shared classified data without approval"?

Also, the Hutts "defended their empire alone" until it WAS destroyed. Not "essentially," not "sort of," it was gone and wouldn't be rebuilt for over a decade.

I want to stress one thing first: The decision has been made and won’t be changed that far into the development cycle.
There are design reasons as well as technical reasons involved:

Think about the gameplay for a second, what advantage does it have to include two factions – the Galactic Alliance and the Imperial Remnant – which play almost the same? None.

And way simpler, it would technically not be feasible for us to add another faction and keep our deadlines.

--------------------
Now I’m going to address both postings at once:
You are right. The Imperial Remnant is the faction which gained most from the Vong War. It was not only substantially larger afterwards, but had the most powerful (unified) military in the whole galaxy. But the IR only gained those worlds after joining forces with the newly formed GA as a compensation for their help. So during their war efforts they were practically part of the GA; thus it doesn’t make sense for us to include them as a unique faction just because of the time they spent sitting around doing nothing whilst being ignored by the Yuuzhan Vong and hoping this would stay this way.

The New Republic in this context most likely addresses the New Republic which defeated the Imperial Remnant time and again and ultimately conducted a peace treaty with the IR which put the IR out of the play for quite a while. (Hand of Thrawn; Timothy Zahn)

The Hutt Empire joined forces with the Vong for some time and then got constantly attacked for two years. Which is almost exactly the time we portray in this mod. This opens up a lot of interesting gameplay and decision making for the player. And the Hutt Empire per se is nothing to spit at either. It is one of the oldest factions in the galaxy, and probably the only one which always survives. You might be surprised what they have in stock…

--------------------
But in the end arguing this decision is tedious, you either like it or you don’t.
Don’t get me wrong, there are good reasons for the Empire to be featured as a playable faction, just not enough for it to make the cut. The hard part about game design is not deciding what feature to inlcued, but what feature to cut. Including the Empire had been discussed time and again, but the decision to not include it has been made and won't be changed now.

Is it possible to make it to where if you have a certain unit on the battlefield that completely prevents you from using another type of unit? For example, fielding Rahm Kota would prevent you from using any Clone Troopers.

No. We make that up as we go... Well, not really make it up, but it just keeps happening that we need a new unit made for a mission or ditch something we don't need. The final unit list will be posted some day in the future.

How will Yuuzhan Vong economics work? I mean, will they use credits? That would be a bit odd, right?
