A excellent game in terms of realism, however I'm afraid it fails at being playable due to the lack of regular players.

WWI: Source. One of the games for a era which there isn't much of a demand for in terms of entertainment, although it seems to be a potential market for anyone bold enough to snatch it up, albeit this mod is free it still could be better.

It's main shortcoming is that there is a large lack of players who partake in battles on it of which is a regular basis. Despite this, even when a few players get around, it can be very fun. The main of the game involves charing towards the enemy, the officer providing support in the form of artillery; gas or otherwise. The purpose of the officer isn't really as the name says though, but rather to give support like the machinegunner class. That being said, the system is something like a rock paper scissor system, where the rifleman beat officers, who beat Machinegunners, who beat rifleman. That being said, it is overall a very enjoyable game, just when you can find a lot of players. But don't take my word for it, try it yourself.

Great Mod, can't wait to see it out of the beta stage. Most maps are pretty big in size, a definite bonus. My favorite aspect of this mod, other than the gas/gas masks, is how the machine gunners must set up their MG08 or Lewis gun on a fixed position to fire; this allows for machine gun teams and all sorts of realistic battle strategies that make this Mod what it is.
Keep up the great work guys!

Here it is - the mod recreating WW1 combat!
The thoroughness with which the dev team completed this challenging task is remarkable: weapon wielding and combat movements are implemented fully, not missing any minor detail!
Of course, there's still room for improvement - the pistols' and trenchclub's animations and impact sounds on objects, for example - but the mod is very playable and quite lifelike!
It will be a pleasure to discover for gamers who are tired of spraying-with-SMGs-from-5-meters deathmatches))

I believe the game is great, with some minor bugs that can be overlooked. While the game itself is terrific, the lack of servers is a shame. Even when there is a server, not many people play. However, that should not take away from the great work that went into creating this awesome mod.

If you are into early 19 century warfare, rain drenched trenches, or old fashion "charge in with bayonets in large numbers and get slaughtered” game play this is the perfect game for you!
Weapons in the game range from good old fashion bolt action rifles with bayonets to spiky clubs to batter your enemies around with! There are also good heavy machine guns for the support class that is very effective yet not overpowered for you must be prone to set up the machinegun. Since this is WW1 you must be thinking that this game has no strategy whatsoever, however that is where you are wrong. There are many trenches to hide and fire from safely and open areas with heavy machinegun fire and artillery fire. There is a simple commands list too so you can tell your team to charge out of the trench and attack without a mic! The officer class also brings alot of strategy into the game. The officer can call in artillery and gas support through his binoculars but is very vulnerable considering he is only equipped with a pistol to defend himself. The game mostly revolves around capturing trenches and territories such as "no man’s land" to receive reinforcements and win the game. There are three classes to choose from in WW1 source:
INFANTRY: primary: bolt action rifle with bayonet
Secondary: 2 hand grenades
SUPPORT: primary: Light machinegun
Secondary: a club for close range
OFFICER: primary: binoculars
Secondary: handgun

In short WW1 source is one of the best non-modern multiplayer source engine first person shooter games out there. SO STOP READING AND START DOWNLOADING! FILL THOSE DAMN SERVERS!!

Game play: 8.5
Graphics: 7.0
Weapons: 8.5
Replay value: 9.0
Originality: 10

WWI source is simple, fun mod. Only it needs a bit more active, or more like bigger community.

Slow progress recently, but good updates and the only First Person WW1 Mod I know of, from what I've seen, the mod content looks high quality. Good work.
