WWI Source is the first and only World War I game to be developed for Steam. All the current WWI mod teams (‘The Trenches 2’, ‘Fields of Horror’, ‘WWI Source’) have united to develop the best World War I game to the Steam community, using the latest Source engine. 1 comment by ashton93 on Nov 11th, 2014

The 11th of November is a date which holds many names. Remembrance Day, Armistice Day and Veterans Day, all depending on what part of the world you live in. Common for all of these names though, is what the 11th of November actually represents; honouring the fallen soldiers that fell bravely during wartime.

Because of the close connection the 11th of November has with the First World War, we in the WW1: Source Dev Team simply won’t let this day go without posting an update like this one for everyone to read. We feel it’s very important, almost like a duty to mark this day in a special way. While we haven’t really got a whole lot to show for you people out there today regarding the project, we feel it’s a good opportunity to pop in and say that work is still going at a steady space. We are all people with real lives and often minimal time for the project, which results in a rather slow pace at times. However this does not mean the project is at a standstill – or even worse, dead in any way. We’re simply a rather slow bunch. We can promise you however, that the long wait will be worth it in the end. In the latest months our new coder Graeme has been doing steady work for us in the coding-department, the last real obstacle before we can begin to really push out our updates more frequently. Bullet ballistics is tied in, realistic motion of the players and many other things are already in the game. There is still a lot of basic functionality to be nailed down though, but we suspect this will go pretty smooth the following weeks from here.

We have decided to open a public Steam group for any fans out there wanting to catch up on the smaller parts of the development of 2.0; we call it the “2.0 Development insight group” where you can expect to find smaller media, announcements and information regarding the development of 2.0 than we show off on sites like MoDDb. It’s basically a development blog with all different sorts of
information. Check it out, it’s rather empty at the moment as it was created today but you could always start a discussion or simply start to follow the group. The more members, the better!

We would like to thank you for reading this little update and hope that you hang in there for more information and media later on.

Don’t forget the most important part of this day; remembering and honouring the fallen.

Lest We Forget

Please make Russian army. One of the developers of this game was Finnish. You Finnish people might remember Finland was Russian. So why not to add Russian army? Regards.

Adding a faction means tons of time-consuming work on:
-historically correct maps
-new models
-coding (weapon physics etc).
This can delay the new version release forever.

Чтобы добавить лишнюю воюющую сторону, нужно очень много времени потратить, чтобы сделать соответствующие
-исторически правильные карты
-новые модели
-программный код (физику оружия и т.д.)
Это задержит выход новой версии очень надолго.

Well, there was no need to translate the text.=)
I think in the beginning you don't need to add many items and maps. Just hold at something most important and develop it. A WWI game looks just strange without Russian army.

I play Verdun WW 1 game on steam and that game looks beautiful like picture ,but when it comes to Mechanics,Ballistic that game is terrible that's why i recommend WW1 Source over Verdun. I hope 2.0 will come soon to get my hands on it now with External Ballistic System .

Ashton, I do ask, any words on Greenlight? I can help pay for the fees of it, if you'd like. I'm more than willing.

It's not a priority at the moment, its a big possibility when we're pretty close to completion though

I don't mean to bring you down, but I found this mod pretty dreadful in its current state. Your attempt at realism by forcing the player to "pull the bolt" every time you shoot is annoying but I guess some people will like it. The Officers' ability to drop toxic gas and artilery is terrible. It's very frustrating to get killed randomly, and it adds nothing of value to the gameplay. The biggest problem I had when playing was really the red effect when you get hit. It paints nearly your entire screen…
