Dear Community,
I will be giving you this update as Jedjtl is currently repairing his
computer. We initially started this page in hopes of gaining the help
and support of fellow modders and for a while it seemed to be working.
However, Jedjtl contacted all team members a while ago and has not
received a reply for a very long time. Even before this Skyrim’s aging
engine has proved difficult to work with on such a large scale. Despite
this Jedjtl has made some amazing breakthroughs working past various
issues. It has also proved difficult to coordinate with team members as
it seems most did not have the time or patience to get better organized
when Jedjtl asked for them to sign up for Dark Creations or to wait when
Jedjtl was having issues getting the map working. A couple team members
also did stuff without listening to instructions requiring Jedjtl to go
back and fix their mistakes. It has gotten to point where Jedjtl and I
think that it may be simpler to just work without a team or least a
smaller one with members in it for the long haul.
We also started the page we because we thought it would be interesting
for our community to watch the mod grow from start to finish. However,
lately it has mostly been used to hound our team to work faster. For
starters we are in fact modders who take time from our lives to work on
something we are not paid for and never will be paid for. We do this
because we are passionate about what we do. All by himself Jedjtl has
made amazing progress in about a year when it took Bethesda, a team of
200, 4 years to make Skyrim. We know that the impatience is at least
partly from a desire to play what we have been working and it is
somewhat understandable as we also wish to see it done. Perhaps you
should consider that the reason why it takes so long for large mods
maybe that everyone complains about the waiting and the team gets
discouraged.
All of this may make you wonder about the future of the mod. Let me put
some of our more loyal followers at ease. We are still committed to the
mod! However, Jedjtl and I have been discussing a switch from Skyrim’s
ck to Cryengine, especially after the reveal of Kingdom Come
Deliverance. Warhorse Studios has declared its intent to make its tools
available to the community and we feel that everything will go a lot
smoother in Cryengine as it is far more user friendly and up to date.
However, this is not final as we are waiting for the release of
aforementioned tools before making a final decision, so the mod may
still be made in Skyrim’s engine.
In conclusion I would like to thank some of you for your patience and
others I would ask that you acquire some or start helping.

Any news on development? I wish I had experience/talent in modding as I'd love to see this come to fruition! Are you sure that the problems that MERP encountered will not occur with this project as well? and I don't mean those issues regarding the C&D. Taken from MERP's page: "...the people over at Dark Creations discovered a new Skyrim large world bug, one embedded in the hard coded areas of the game that no one yet has been able to fix. This bug causes activators (doors and chests), magic, ranged combat, and many other aspects to no longer function beyond a set area of a map (the central area between 64 and -64 cells along both the x and y axis). Basically, worlds much larger than Skyrim's are impossible."

Sorry for the length, and I assume you guys are familiar with MERP's issues, but I thought I would inform you in case you had no prior knowledge.

The current plan for fixing that is to just split up the height map. No doubt that's what MERP would have done too if it wasn't for the C&D.

As for wanting to help out it's not that difficult to learn modding:P Although it might be time consuming:(

So you'll just have multiple maps that can be accessed through entering a "new area" much like taking the ship to Solstheim?

Based on what I know the heightmaps would likely use geographic and man made locations like the wall, rivers, seas, mountains, the bloody gate, etc. to separate them.

Basically it will hopefully be as seamless as possible. I also suggested that someone could try to figure out how to preload nearby locations into RAM to reduce loading times. But since I'm not a programmer I'm probably just saying stuff that may not be possible with Skyrim:(

Easy way of fixing that would be to reinstall Skyrim:P Best way of fixing that would be to look if you missed something. Also did you completely remove the modded folder before you pasted your original folder?

Also someone should figure out how to make WiC work well with Mod Organizer. It probably would work instantly without any additional work but I hadn't tested it yet. Basically Mod Organizer copies all the files of a mod into the main Skryim data folder upon launch and then after the game is closed it removes them. That's probably not exactly what happens but from my experience that is the closest explanation I have for it working like it does.

How about quests? Will it be just Westeros or you are going to make story? And if yes, about what?

Please note that I am not directly a part of this project and that I am not contributing to the writing portion of the team at all.

That being said my understanding is that first Westeros has to be made and then quests will be added. Of course since it's being made region by region I would expect it to be similar to what MERP was doing where there were going to be quests for each of the regions but from what I remember those quests that would have been made for each of MERP's regions were simply meant to give some background to that specific region. That way the main quests would only start once the entire project was completed and thus nothing would have been spoiled and would still give players a reason to go to regions that they had already seen completed in earlier versions.

As for the timeline of WiC I think that it's starting at about the same time as the timeline in the books and if they go with a similar system to what I just described then the player *might* have the pleasure of playing through Robert's Rebellion. I used * around might because the chances for that are very slim due to the time between that event and the beginning of A Game of Thrones and the fact that it's a pretty major event and would require a tonne of time to implement well.

Anyways like I said take it with a bucket of salt since I'm not at all affiliated with the writers. Legate or Jed could give a better answer than me on this topic.

If you guys want, I don't mind doing a little bit on Lore, IE: writing text for Books and such. In terms of techincal stuff though I can't help

Also have a question, will you be changing "magic" at all? IE: Will we have pretty much non-existant super rare like in GoT, or will it be vanilla magic or different somehow etc

Actually the map looks empety, cause it took many months to create the naked version of the map.. the result is absolutely stunning, but now it's necessary to think about cities and png.. probably a bigger number of modders could make the difference.. If you have some particular skill, you could try to help :)

First make a moddb account then pm someone like JedJTL Moddb.com or if you really don't want a moddb account (not sure why not) then I guess Jed could give you another way of contacting him.
