For units with shields, I was thinking of only having it apply to them if their shields are broken and down.

Wow, that looks good. Aren't those the halo 1 hit animations for humans? Are you gonna do ones for the covenant as well?
Nearly all Covenant units have similar animations.
And no, the human one's aren't from Halo.
