With Wheels of War, we want to bring back the awesome feeling when playing Carmageddon all those years ago - the initial racing, the wasting of other cars, collecting power-ups, insane stunts and running over zombies. There will be powerups/powerdowns, a credits system, upgradable cars (via armour, offensive, and engine characteristics), checkpoint style racing (i.e, ability to roam), destructable cars, and a stunts system. Note that this is not a port/clone or rip of Carmageddon. We are taking it's single player concept, evolving it to multiplayer, and creating a whole new environment for it to exist in.
A game design document has been released to the public on the website focusing on our Free For All Campaign game mode here.
We have many other modes planned, but our first alpha release will focus on this one.
Features of Interest (Note: All are not available yet, but will be implemented in due course):

  • Zombie ragdoll effects.
  • In-game soundtrack featuring Intro/Fadeout, Jack Glass, LucienNine Inch Nails.and
  • Dynamic campaigns via track voting.
  • Large library of powerups.
  • Multiple gametypes.
  • Intuitive, simple graphical iterfaces.
  • Voiceover system.
  • Locational VOIP support.
  • Improved controller configuration options.
  • Game statistics and awards.
  • User defined music directory with shuffle.
  • Ground-breaking radio commentary which adapts around user defined music.
  • Offline mode to practise stunts and adapt to vehicle handling.
  • Selection of vehicles to choose from, each with thier own differing sets of charateristics.
  • In-game live upgrading of vehicle armour, offense and engine properties.
  • Involved stunt system, with ambition-based rewards.
  • No set theme. It allows us to focus on gameplay at this early stage rather than looks.
  • Overhauled vehicle sound effect system.
  • More features to be decided upon...

EARTH, 24 June 2008: The Carnage Council is proud to announce the public release of Wheels of War Alpha 0.2!

Hey Guys, great news - version 0.2 has been released! It features a small amount of bug fixes, three new vehicles, a whole new 'Championship Racing' game mode, 5 racetracks for that racing mode (which include the 3 for DM Campaign matches), and web-based stats in the form of a global best-lap leaderboard.

It became apparent the zombies, in-game upgrades and stunt systems were going to take a while to develop. Web-based stats were always on the cards for a later inclusion, so this new race mode lets us examine how that works whilst giving you another reason to play Wheels of War. We think it ties in nicely, hopefully you will agree!

To get on the global leaderboard at, you need to play on a RANKED RACE server, and complete a lap within the time limit. Every players best lap during that race is recorded and put up for all to see. It's that simple! The stats website is going to be continually developed over the next few weeks as more ways of conveying the information are realised - if you have any suggestions, post on our forums.

Server admins wanting more information about how to make their servers ranked can come to our IRC channel (#wheelsofwar on or post in our general forum on our official website at

We are always on the look out for download mirrors and server partners. If you are willing to host a Wheels of War server, be it Deathmatch or Racing, get in touch and we can discuss how to get Ranked status or even get in some sponsored advertising on the stats page if you help us get the word out :)

Thank you, and have a good time racing!

Damn this looks nice, but why did you pick ETQW for the engine? I traded in my copy of that game because it nobody plays it online >_<

I dont understand why you could not find anyone online, there was a bug about te server browser that was fixed with the current patch. Maybe you were experincing that.

Basically, ET:QW offered what we needed :
1) A solid codebase. id engines are well known and stand up against anyone.
2) Multiplayer/network suitability. This is a multiplayer only game, and seeing this is the same in ET:QW, knowing lots of time has been spent on network optimizations is a big plus.
3) Community: The ET:QW community is very large. Over a quarter of a million registered players.
4) Cross platform: we will be releasing for windows, linux, and hopefully mac!
5) Developer help: Splashdamage are a good bunch of guys, and have personally already helped in the development of Wheels of War by giving us pointers into some difficult implementation issues.
6) Appeal. IF we had developed for say crysis, all the developers would have needed high end systems, along with the players. ET:QW offers great visuals at half the cost. Also, it seems ET:QW sold a hella lot more copies than Crysis and UT3 if the figures publiched on were anything to go by.

Basically: I did my research - ET:QW ticked all the boxes.

As i said in a previous post, This mod has huge potential.
I know that it's still in early stages of dev, but I hope it will be very stylish. with Duke Nukem-like voices.. and a crazy apocalyptic atmosphere =)

Wish you all the best, will keep an eye (maybe both of them) on this mod, and have a great new year, hoping that 2008 will bring lots of good things ;)

We have yet to create a low poly driver model. At the moment the cars dont have a driver in them - It's about the cars, these small things can come later.

The screenshot in the Optimus Crime news post is in-game, and there were people driving those cars, even if you cant see them!

The cars are actually in-game and drivable, it's just as stated above we have yet to make the driver to put in the vehicle :)
