Warm Gun: The Second Coming of the Wild West A futuristic wild west, Warm Gun combines the favorite motifs of the classic western genre with the scraps of an obliterated technocracy. World War III has been fought to the tipping point and ecologists’ long unheeded cries have been silenced by the grim truth of their predictions. To the last drop of oil have the world’s resources been depleted, and only sporadic traces of modern structure can be sifted in the dust. Time ticks forward but humans must retrace their advancement back, through a history that has already been lived and to the Wild West for the second time around. We have trampled ahead to the past in muddy boots, to the United States of late 19th century. Greeted by the ghost of the wide-open country, the exhausted land is barren too, of all the old dreams we fulfilled beyond our means. This spun western lets you create your own one-of-a-kind characters and unique gangs; choose from weapons new and strange and a wider range...
We have been working hard as always and we are nearing an official release, we know that your hungry for a proper build and we want to deliver. Its been a long time coming...

We fought hard to make the phase four deadline in the MSUC and we managed to release a "developers build" but its not what we wanted to represent us. We want you all to know that the build we posted was for a contest... so if your expectations were not met take into consideration that this was a developers build.
Our commitment to you and to UT3 engine:
Even if the contest does not pan out and we do not get the invite to phase 5 we still plan on releasing a proper build for the public to download and play. We are not jumping ship and leaving the engine, we are not folding the team, we are not going to quit... We started out down this road and we plan on committing to it and making this game a reality.
We are going to go harder than ever before and over the next few months we plan on making this game come to life. The Warm Gunners are here to stay and we will bring you a proper Alpha when its ready.
So lets move on and get to the goods...
Our character team has been rocking away and making huge strides, Patrick Paquin, Dane Brennand and Omar Amador are raising the bar, we hope you like the new models and as always please drop us some feedback, we are trying to get them as solid and pro as possible.
The Levels are getting polished, both Red River Canyon and Heart of Darkness are now at the Alpha stage. We are planning on adding three more levels in the next couple months, so stay tuned for some major updates in this department. We will be posting some wip screens soon.
Here is a sample of some new weapon models... we are finalizing the last few weapons now, all models are completed and there are just a few left to texture.
Our Art Director Paul Stratton has been putting the final touches on our character skin shader...
Here are some examples of it in a colored light environment:
Before I sign off for this update I'd like to add a few things...
We are looking for concept artists and a web site artist, so if you have some 2D skills and want to join a dedicated crew thats making some headway... drop me a line.
Thanks for your patience and feedback as we keep trucking along... Warm Gun is coming to life and things are getting interesting...

Quitting would be really stupid, since you might still find a publisher and develop this game into a commercial release. It just bothers me that you weren't able to release any playable beta so far, but I guess that's the magic of modding: you can never quite know what happens.
Despite the problems with personel, I hope Warm Gun will become an awesome mod and entertain people on PS3 and PC alike. To get that far purely by cooperative means and without investing money is a huge feat!
Those are some fantastic models, I can't wait for the full release of this game. Best of luck finding the team members you need.
Seriously, some of theese shots are good enough for a full game. You guys have real tallent and i hope to see you in the industry soon ;).
Just hope your coders can keep up to the bar set by the artists ;)
What, there was a ALpha ? ??
Great news, the characters are looking awesome.
well, it's nice to know a group that made a mod with the intent of entering a contest isn't giving up if they don't win... but it's kind of disheartening that you even mention that's a possible reason to close up shop. Makes it sound like the only reason you made the mod was to win a contest, not to make a mod.
I like that melee sword thing. That's pretty neat, but why is there a spike with the hammer as a weapon? That would seem kind of hard to hammer in to someone (at least w/o smashing your own hand in the process. ;) ). Plus the handle on the hammer would be pretty short to smash that thing in to something hard (the pickaxe handle is pretty short too, would be hard to get a good swing & if you missed, well, at least you don't get a TK if you take yourself out!).
I'm really interested to see how the crossbow works. That's a neat design.
We were never quitting... I mentioned those things to keep the hounds at bay... we received tons of comments and reply's saying negative things, People think because we are laying low and not making updates for a month that the game is doomed and we are dead... when in reality we are working our butts off.
We want to take this game as far as possible and we would love to go indie with it at some point.
We planned on making it into the contest and we did that... it may not be the best submission but we met a goal and we are gearing up to continue in that direction if all goes well.
Like I stated in the article, even if the contest does not pan out we will still push on and get this game into your hands. :)
The Warm Gunners are a strong team that wont give up on our dream.
fan harassment is only an inevitability.
If you release a few in a row then don't release, it makes the naive ones instantly assume it's dead because they haven't gotten their daily media they've come to expect.
You don't always goto update with media ;D
Yea good call... I think we are just going to post our dev schedule and that way people will know when we are due for an update.
Thanks for the feedback AlCool... good to see your still watching.
Looks great!
