Warm Gun: The Second Coming of the Wild West A futuristic wild west, Warm Gun combines the favorite motifs of the classic western genre with the scraps of an obliterated technocracy. World War III has been fought to the tipping point and ecologists’ long unheeded cries have been silenced by the grim truth of their predictions. To the last drop of oil have the world’s resources been depleted, and only sporadic traces of modern structure can be sifted in the dust. Time ticks forward but humans must retrace their advancement back, through a history that has already been lived and to the Wild West for the second time around. We have trampled ahead to the past in muddy boots, to the United States of late 19th century. Greeted by the ghost of the wide-open country, the exhausted land is barren too, of all the old dreams we fulfilled beyond our means. This spun western lets you create your own one-of-a-kind characters and unique gangs; choose from weapons new and strange and a wider range...
This is our first official release... Its a developers build and was released for the MSUC Phase 4 deadline. We are aware of the major issues and are working to fix them.

Really small DL size... Is it real?
It's real... it's a downloader :)
its a updater
I love it when an installer of all things needs a new version of .NET. Fuckin' LOVE it. No offense intended to the devs, but what the hell is wrong with a zip or an NSIS?
you're tottaly right, now we even can't see what the download size is...
and users with a bandwith limit like me
like to know how much they dl
grats guys! ofc as competition, i cant even bear to look at this thing until its all over, but the AFF team, as people who know too well the pain of full time game dev on top of a day job, send you many congrats on completing your mod!
I'm seriously wondering why this has been released.
- when I started WarmGun.exe, it yet again had to update, or maybe it wanted to inst. the whole mod all over again, it wasn't obvious. It even asked for a system reboot which is wrong. After the 2nd try it didn't start anything, maybe because of the UT3Steam version? So I had to create myself a shortcut.
- the menu. Everything is messed up, it's missing textures and instead of making them invisible, they replaced them with a dummies. It asked me to create an UT3 character which is wrong, it shown up UT3 gametypes and maps so I barely found anything, and it didn't show a single WG server, so I had to start one.
- then, when I was finally ready to play, I had to wait a few minutes until a single rather small map was loaded. The loading screen just said "Precaching" and didn't even show a nice picture to look at.
I could then choose a class which I want to spawn with. But it didn't say how to change the class afterwards. (and I never found out)
So I was stuck with the "Scout"...which has one weapon..some weird sword and claw thingy. Animations I'd say: averarge. The sound was bad. And the function of that weapon was just horrible.
- the bots didn't do anything. They all had the same class, too. When I used my claw weapon, I heard UT3s shield hit sounds and I was like wth? At least the shield shader didn't appear. So I hit them a few times more, and the shield gone off. A Scout with high tech shielding, interesting. Then I killed him, and I got those UT3 like messages, "first blood" and even "killing spree" and stuff, which is just too off for a mod like this.
- so the alpha version is nothing to play with.
You can have a look at it for once, and then delete it.
I'm wondering if the developers themselves aren't really aware of what they have released there.
You've got to be REALLY patient to handle mods in a stage like this.
There's a reason why it's called an alpha build... I honestly don't understand the logic of harping it for not being a fully-completed mod when it's in the alpha stages - that point was made crystal clear. And you ask why they released this, yet they specifically mentioned that it is because they must release a build to be considered for the Make Something Unreal contest.
But, yes, some basic documentation would be useful
yea were aware of the major issues we are fixing a bunch of stuff now and going to do an official news post... just give it a couple more days,
we had to release in order to get into the contest...
The character select works
just hit f-11
we will have it updated this weekend... thats why we went with auto updater... so we can keep you guys up to date with the stuff.
I will also upload the full 500 mb download...
Along with a user manual
were trying to get our shit together... just bare with us
Take your time, though it's a shame you had to release this to the MSUC. With some more polish this could easily rank high, but I don't see that happening with the current build. I just hope you folks don't get discouraged and keep working to get it where it needs to be.
I'm glad you're uploading a proper download, a launcher that doesn't tell you what you're downloading, how big it is or vaguely how long it will take is just stupid.
I'm a modder myself.
I'm totally aware of the definition of alpha and what not.
I've gotten tons of negative feedback from other UT3 players who downloaded and (tryed to) play the Warm Gun mod.
And it was rather angry and pranked what I heard. Of course here on ModDB you will most likely only see the positive stuff.
You could have just titled it: Warm Gun Alpha (not functional)
Harsh, but that's how the things are. This release is useless as it is.
I understand you had to do it just for MSUC, but I don't see how they gonna like it.
You've made yourself a bad mistake by giving away a good image. Most wont even bother downloading yet another 500MB in the next few days.. but maybe 6 months later when we can expect some serious fixes.
thanks for the feedback Red
I have made changes to the title of this build.
I will also be doing a news post and informing the community where we are at with the games progression.
well, I didn't really expect a "thanks" at this point.
More like flaming from all sides. :o
Well, I just wanted to point out some things that I (& friends) feel bad about.
Is there any other downlaod link. Like a direct PS3 download? For the mac and linux users. :/
What is it? Do it work?
It doesnt work. Steam version. Vista x64. Appcrash when the game starts(picture of the game and then crash). Installation done right.
