We proudly present you a highly-detailed Republic Commando model for Star Wars: Jedi Academy. The model is provided by "Vode An: Delta Squad" mod team. Since a lot of people requested us to share this model with gamers, we had finally agreed to release it.


1. Description:

 We proudly present you a highly-detailed Republic Commando model for Star Wars: Jedi Academy. The model is provided by "Vode An: Delta Squad" mod team. Since a lot of people requested us to share this model with gamers, we had finally agreed to release it. The model is converted from our custom skeleton to the one compatibile with Jedi Academy multiplayer, so some errors might occur. 

Republic Commandos are elite units of the Republic and were significant power in Clone Wars, where they made their first stand. Everywhere they go, they spread fear and death to the enemies of the Republic. Since the end of the Clone Wars they remained faithfull to the republic and no other unit could match with efficiency of this elite warriors.

 The package includes:
A model of Republic Commando
Four additional color variations:
- Delta 38 "Boss"
- Delta 07 "Sev"
- Delta 40 "Fixer"
- Delta 62 "Scorch"

 2. Installation:

 In order to install this addon, you need to open your "base" folder of the game (usually X:/Program Files/LucasArts/Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Academy/GameData/base) and put "vode_an_delta_squad.pk3" file inside this folder.

 3. Uninstallation:

 In order to uninstall this addon, you need to open your "base" folder of the game (usually X:/Program Files/LucasArts/Star Wars Jedi Knight Jedi Academy/GameData/base) and delete "vode_an_delta_squad.pk3" file from this folder.

 4. Credits:

 Characters included in the addon are based on the characters of the "Star Wars: Republic Commando" video game by LucasArts

I have 4 big issues with this model
1. No LOD support - This looks like a pretty high poly model especially with glow and specularity thrown on there (glow doubles the tri count for any object it's put on)
2. Textures seem a bit cartoony (at least for the main armor part) - They don't quite fit the feel of Republic Commando in my opinion, they could use some improvement in the finer details like scratches and grunge
3. Poorly rigged - Especially around the arm area, the second saber floats way away from the player and the biceps deform really weirdly. so does the elbow where it meets the forearm armor.
4. The texture resolution is really low, 512x512 looks really bad, you should just overhaul the textures in a higher resolution (at least 1024x1024 for the bigger objects like the torso)

One more thing, though it's less of a big deal, there's no gauntlet vibroblade! You should at least include it as a non-default model (i.e. /model vode_an_delta_squad/blade which btw, you should really rename the model to something like delta or commando or katarn. Yes, the armor is called katarn commando armor). Oh and there's no sounds :P

BUT otherwise it's a good model, I really like it. Good job

1 The model is released for personal use only, not in some big mods and intended to use in multiplayer. In MP there are not many players and the probability that someone would use this model is low. So the only person using that model would be You. There's no need for LOD then. Even not so modern computers will cope with it without any noticable differences.

2. Textures are made to look like the ones in RC, although it's impossible to recreate it 100% exact. We're tried our best with that and used tons of reference pictures to give the look of the RC.

3. As it is written in readme - We're using modified skeleton and some bones and tags are not included, as they're not used ingame.

4. It's still under development and textures would be remade to match higher resolution as well as they would be made on the base of new UV maps.

I'm still just pointing out the flaws, and jut because "modern machines" can handle it doesn't mean it shouldn't be included.

I'll give an example, although it doesn't exactly apply to this, every model in Moviebattles 2 lacks LoDs, so in large-scale/open maps (for example the desert with the swoop on it, I don't remember the name) will constantly stutter and have FPS issues because even a model that you can only see a few pixels of is being rendered at full detail.

With any new model you make that's going to be another set of npcs that are always going to be rendered at full detail no matter how far away they are.

As for fixing the textures, you need to blend the "angles" on the armor where you put black lines, it looks very cartoon-esque.


Still, do what you want, it's your mod, your model, I'm just suggesting ways for you to make it better.
