
Viral Outbreak is a Zombie mod, no before you go on think that this is another zombie mod that won't get finished, this mod isn't looking to tackle a huge project but instead get a base and work from that so the public is entertained, so this means not that much time of development, and frequent patches on the mod to keep improving it.
Viral Outbreak takes a new take on zombies, realism, you will have to work and rely on your team, this means sticking together and sharing rations and ammunition. As well you will not have a whole arsenal of rockets and mini guns and your disposal, instead weapons will only be available where they seam to be fit, so small city's and towns, rural areas, shopping malls, plaza's, etc will all only have limited weaponry, places like Police Stations and Army barracks will have some more advanced weapons available, an example would be the police station having more advanced shotguns and handguns available and army barracks having some assault rifles available and more advance precision weaponry.
The zombies are based off of popular films like 28 days/weeks later and Dawn of the Dead, they flat out sprint until you are in their grasps then attempt to pounce and kill, you are only able to play as humans, the future may bring the ability to play as the zombies as well. The zombies die from being shot anywhere.
This mod also aims for weapon realism, recoil and ballistics will be properly simulated and iron sights will be included.
Zombie spawning is dynamic, as you progress spawn points will be enabled and disabled, every spawn is random which means you will never play the same level twice.
Levels are designed large, loads of explorable areas, lots of stores and some hidden areas to find rations, medical equipment, and weapons.

It's that time again.
Another media Release, we finally are getting weapons skinned, animated and compiled. Everything is coming along great, we have gotten a lot of coding done (ironsights, etc.) and are approaching an alpha pretty fast. In the next coming month, expect to see zombie models, finished weapons, in game footage, etc.
We are going to have approximately 4-6 zombie models for our Alpha/Beta testing, those models will each be skinned 3-6 different times to at least bring a little variety, there will most likely be more models created later on coming to a final release.
Coming to a final release we will also be implementing some custom Source Shaders into the mod, this will include Real Parallax, and real phong, so that we do not need to simulate lighting on our weapon skins but instead use the engine to properly light the model.

A lot of progress has been made on some maps as well, screens of Ov_Farm and Ov_Crossroads will be displayed in the next coming media release.
Vo_Urban, created by SUNRISE has officially been completed, it will be altered to fit the gamemodes properly, stay tuned later on as Quick Time Panoramics will be released on a couple of our maps, including this one. This is one of our least priority projects right now, before this even gets started we are going to get a stable Alpha, then polish from there.

For those interested in being included in the Alpha and Beta, sign up on the forums, we can use some testers. You don't have to have any experience but to make your chances higher of getting selected you should have a Microphone, mature age (15+), and should generally act mature and respect the Team.

Let me make this a bit clear to please you, we are doing everything we can to make this based off the movie but still be fun, this game is meant to be fun not a complete duplicate. Sorry again for some confusion.
Besides, the headshot only thing is realistic only in DotD, I would think if the zombie can't move, we can consider it pretty dead.
I don't think the team is trying to perfectly recreate Dawn of the Dead or 28 Days Later in video game form, I think the Viral Outbreak is trying to make something inspired by those movies, but with their own unique twist.
Explain, what I'm trying to say is this mod IS based off of 28 Weeks Later, when I mean Dawn of the Dead as well I only mean the running zombie aspect as both movies share this, sorry for the confusion, this isn't based off Dawn of the Dead, the only part is the running zombies and the fact that one map is going to be a replica of the Crossroads Mall in Canada that was used for the movie.
Didn't NMRiH use the same mall? Think a few other potentials did the same over the years.

We said it's based off 28 Weeks Later, there will be the mall from Dawn of the Dead later but the zombies are based off of 28 Weeks Later, I can call then infected but I like to get to the point, people know what I'm talking about when I use the word zombies. Plus most people prefer zombies over any other word.
