Overview
Vietnam Glory Obscured is a total conversion for Command and Conquer Generals: Zero Hour that simulates warfare during the Vietnam War. The mod features unique gameplay elements such as village occupation and reputation, jungle combat and modular construction.
Two completely different factions, the United States of America and the North Vietnamese Army, are represented with realistic units from the time period and present very different gameplay styles and strategies. Infantry warfare is very important; vehicles and aircraft must be supported to be successful and all units have multiple direct counters.
Custom maps are designed to provide novel strategic choices while being aesthetically pleasing, with a variety of different styles, layouts and game modes. Custom designed jungle trees create realistic jungles that camouflage infantry for ambushes and provide bonuses to NVA infantry; they can catch and spread fire dynamically, as well as be poisoned by Agent Orange.
Game modes include Bombardment, with a capturable Battleship or Aircraft Carrier for the USA and total map vision for the NVA, and King of the Hill, where a player must hold the hill area for a given period of time to be victorious.
This style of gameplay has never before been seen in Command and Conquer Generals, and makes for a whole new experience.
The Auto Updater
We are now offering a full download that comes with an auto updater. Once the mod is installed, any small fixes or changes will be updated automatically whenever you start the mod launcher if you are connected to the internet.
The speed of the downloads for the auto updater will range in speed depending on how fast your connection is, how many people are currently updating, and your location. If you are having issues with the Auto Updater, please check out our common issues thread.
The updater allows this mod to be compatible with any other mods that use mod launchers, including Shockwave and Cold War Crisis.

If you haven't tried the Hydra Release yet, you can download it here. If you have an older version of Hydra, just open the mod launcher and it will automatically update to the latest version, Hydra 2.1.

This is one of my favorite mods (CNC) along with Cold War Crisis and Combine Conspiracy(<<<<just started but i like hl2)
we are having 3 releases so people don't have to wait till the entire project is complete. How long Beta testing takes is hard to say, depending how many major bugs we find during testing will dictate how long until it goes public. We will announce when beta testing starts, so be sure to sign up for a beta tester slot on our forums.

We know how touchy the vietnam conflict can be for some, but we have tried to portray the emotional impact of vietnam. We hope this is even more apparent when we are able to release the mod. The idea is to portray the real, gritty, ugly truth of vietnam and not try to sugar coat anything or hold any bias when planning out the different sides. We are trying to make it as realistic as possible while staying in the realms of having the game elements fun to play.

Looking at the screenshots, I noticed the loading screen. I'm not sure if it was your intent, but I had a very powerful emotional reaction to it. The images you chose for it were very effective. I've never really thought about it, but all the other RTS games I have played never insipired the same emotional reaction. Maybe I'm just thinking too much into it, but the game seems to remind you of the real Vietnam, and the things that happened there.
no its not ready for download. we just got a new coder who is going through and fixing everything and getting it ready to go. but when it is ready to download, you'll know.
